Smash\&Clash plays free in any browser at [smashandclash.in](https://www.smashandclash.in). The apps are the same game, installed: they work offline against the house opponent, and online they play [every other client](/clients). A room code from the app is joined on the website, in Telegram, in a terminal or in any app built on the SDK, and theirs are joined in the app. ## Download 2.1.0 | Platform | Download | Notes | | - | - | - | | **Windows 10/11** (64-bit) | [Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Windows-Setup.exe](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Windows-Setup.exe) | Per-user installer, no admin needed | | **macOS 11+** | [Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-macOS-Universal.dmg](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-macOS-Universal.dmg) | One app for Apple Silicon and Intel | | **Linux** (any distribution) | [Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86\_64.AppImage](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.AppImage) | Also [.deb](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-amd64.deb) (Debian, Ubuntu) and [.rpm](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.rpm) (Fedora, openSUSE) | | **Android 7.0+** | [Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Android.apk](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/download/v2.1.0/Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Android.apk) | Sideload it; Google Play is in testing | | **iPhone and iPad** | No download | Add the web app to your Home Screen (below) | Every release, with its `SHA256SUMS.txt`, is on [smashandclash/installers](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/latest). ## What's new in 2.1.0 * **Every client plays every other.** **Play a friend** makes a room with a six-letter code that works everywhere: the apps, smashandclash.in, Telegram, the terminal (`npx smashandclash open CODE`) and any app built on the [SDK](/sdk). Codes made on any of them work in the apps. * **Quick match** pairs you with players on every client. * Games connect on any network, mobile data included, and the network checks every move. ## Install 1. Download `Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Windows-Setup.exe` and run it. 2. The installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may show **Windows protected your PC**. Choose **More info**, then **Run anyway**. 3. It installs for your user only (no admin prompt) and adds a Start-menu shortcut. The WebView2 runtime is installed if it's missing. 1. Download `Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-macOS-Universal.dmg`, open it, and drag **Smash\&Clash** into **Applications**. 2. The app isn't notarized by Apple yet. The first time, right-click (or Control-click) the app, choose **Open**, then confirm **Open**. After that it opens normally. 3. If macOS says Smash\&Clash can't be opened, go to **System Settings → Privacy & Security** and choose **Open Anyway**. ```bash theme={null} # AppImage: any distribution chmod +x Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.AppImage ./Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.AppImage # Debian / Ubuntu sudo apt install ./Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-amd64.deb # Fedora / RHEL / openSUSE sudo dnf install ./Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Linux-x86_64.rpm ``` The app uses the system WebKitGTK (webkit2gtk 4.1); the `.deb` and `.rpm` install it for you. 1. On your phone, download `Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Android.apk`. 2. When asked, allow installs from that source (**Settings → Install unknown apps**). 3. Open the downloaded file to install it, then launch **Smash\&Clash**. The Google Play listing is in testing; once it opens, the app updates from there. Open [smashandclash.in](https://www.smashandclash.in) in **Safari**, tap **Share**, then **Add to Home Screen**. It runs full screen with its own icon, and plays offline once its offline pack has downloaded. ## Check a download Compare the file's SHA-256 with the line for it in `SHA256SUMS.txt`: ```bash macOS / Linux theme={null} shasum -a 256 Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-* ``` ```powershell Windows theme={null} Get-FileHash .\Smash-and-Clash-2.1.0-Windows-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256 ``` ## System requirements * **Windows:** Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. * **macOS:** macOS 11 Big Sur or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel. * **Linux:** x86\_64 with WebKitGTK 4.1 (Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora 38+ or equivalent). * **Android:** Android 7.0 or newer. * **iPhone and iPad:** iOS and iPadOS 16.4 or newer, in Safari. * A GPU with WebGL, which nearly every device has. For developers: an app's seat names its platform in games, e.g. `clients: { A: 'android' }`, next to `smashandclash.in`, `smashandclash-cli`, `tldraw` and your own app's name. See [one game, every client](/clients). # Attack animation Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/build/animation Each character's wind-up and strike drawings, where they pivot, and when each one shows. When a card attacks, its character winds up and strikes. The game shows three drawings: | Drawing | Where | | - | - | | rest | the character's `art` | | wind-up | `animation.windup` | | strike | `animation.strike` | The wind-up and strike drawings are 1088×1088, on transparency, facing right.

Find the **pivot**: `animation.pivot` is where the character meets the ground. 2. Draw the frame **scaled by `artScale`** relative to the art, with its pivot on the art's pivot. 3. To **face left**, mirror the frame horizontally about the pivot. Pengu's art with its pivot marked where it meets the ground; the wind-up drawing scaled by artScale with its pivot on the same point; the same drawing mirrored about the pivot to face left Pengu's art with its pivot marked where it meets the ground; the wind-up drawing scaled by artScale with its pivot on the same point; the same drawing mirrored about the pivot to face left ```ts theme={null} // on a canvas the size of the card art (w × h) function drawFrame(ctx: CanvasRenderingContext2D, img: HTMLImageElement, w: number, h: number, a: NonNullable, faceLeft: boolean) { const px = a.pivot.x * w, py = a.pivot.y * h; ctx.save(); ctx.translate(px, py); ctx.scale(faceLeft ? -a.artScale : a.artScale, a.artScale); ctx.drawImage(img, -px, -py, w, h); ctx.restore(); } ``` ## Timing An attack is one of three kinds: * **strike**: the card attacks one neighbour and captures it; * **stomp**: it attacks several neighbours at once and captures at least one; * **blocked**: it captures nothing. It never reaches the strike drawing; being stopped short is the point. `kit.animation.timing` says which drawing shows over the attack's progress, from 0 to 1: Three bars from 0 to 1. Strike: rest to 0.15, wind-up to 0.34, strike to 0.62, then rest. Stomp: rest to 0.17, wind-up to 0.5, strike to 0.72, then rest. Blocked: rest to 0.15, wind-up to 0.46, then rest Three bars from 0 to 1. Strike: rest to 0.15, wind-up to 0.34, strike to 0.62, then rest. Stomp: rest to 0.17, wind-up to 0.5, strike to 0.72, then rest. Blocked: rest to 0.15, wind-up to 0.46, then rest | Kind | rest | wind-up | strike | rest | | - | - | - | - | - | | strike | 0–0.15 | 0.15–0.34 | 0.34–0.62 | 0.62–1 | | stomp | 0–0.17 | 0.17–0.5 | 0.5–0.72 | 0.72–1 | | blocked | 0–0.15 | 0.15–0.46 | — | 0.46–1 | The game cuts between drawings on the fast part of the motion and holds each extreme. Move the card with the attack, then swap the drawing at these marks. [Seat sync](/play/board) tells you what happened, in order: `cardPlaced`, then `cardsCaptured` with the cells that flipped (no `cardsCaptured` after an attack means it was blocked), and `cardHopped` when a card hops off a chess tile and attacks again. Which neighbours a card attacks follows from the board: every enemy card next to it, not frozen. See [Reading sides](/play/moves#reading-sides). # Cards and art Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/build/art Show a card as the game prints it, or build your own card from the character art, values and colours. # Design system Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/build/design smashandclash.design: the official look of Smash&Clash as a .design file your agent can follow - as it is, or with your own flavour. Smash\&Clash's look - tilted candy buttons with a hard lip on a bright blue world, sticker titles, one sun-yellow action per screen - is published as a [`.design`](https://github.com/AgentsORG/DESIGN) file: a design contract written for coding agents. Put it in your project, and your agent builds a client that feels like Smash\&Clash. The Smash&Clash lobby: the logo, Luna on the board, candy buttons for How to play, Replays and More, Play a friend, 2 players local, the Mutators and Classic switch, and the sun-yellow Play button Colours, type, shapes, motion, sound, components, voice and the rules - design.v1. The same tokens as CSS variables (`--sc-*`), generated from the file. ## Use it with your agent 1. Save the file at the root of your client's project: ```bash theme={null} curl -o smashandclash.design https://www.smashandclash.in/smashandclash.design ``` 2. Give your agent the skills that read it and set the craft bar: ```bash theme={null} npx skills add AgentsORG/DESIGN # the design skill: reads and follows .design files npx skills add AgentsORG/design-engineering # the design-engineering skill: motion, polish, accessibility ``` We recommend [design-engineering](https://github.com/AgentsORG/design-engineering) for any client you build: it covers what a design file leaves to judgment - motion and easing, interaction polish, accessibility and copy. 3. Ask for UI as usual ("build the lobby", "draw a card in my hand"). The agent loads `smashandclash.design` first and builds from its tokens and components. The file carries its own instructions, so an agent without the skills still follows it. The file pairs with the [card art, animation and sound](/build/overview) from the SDK: it says how the game looks, and the kit gives you the art and audio. ## What's in it | Section | Holds | | - | - | | `intent`, `overview` | The look in a sentence: a press-able toy on a sky-blue world | | `tokens.color` | The world blue, navy ink, sugar surfaces, the seven candy fills, you / them, Mutators / Classic, card frame and value-badge colours | | `tokens.typography` | Luckiest Guy (titles, card values), Lilita One (labels, names), Rubik (text) | | `tokens.radius`, `shape`, `elevation` | Corner radii, the -8° tilt, the hard lip under every candy | | `tokens.motion`, `sound` | Durations, easings and springs; the candy-pop sound family | | `components` | Button (seven fills), hero button, icon button, tile, tabs, segmented, switch, toast, dialog, ribbon, screen header, player plate, game card, card back, board tile | | `decisions`, `constraints` | Which fill when, how to colour players, what never to do | | `voice` | How Smash\&Clash talks: short, upbeat, names over labels | | `themes` | Arena Pop Blue (the default) and the game's high-contrast mode | ## Your own flavour The default is Smash\&Clash. To give your client its own look, don't edit the file - extend it. Create your own file next to it and override only what you want to change: smashandclash.design holds the world, candies, display face, radii and the locked rules; midnight.design extends it and changes the world, display face and radii; your client uses midnight's changes with everything else from smashandclash.design, and the locked rules stay as they are smashandclash.design holds the world, candies, display face, radii and the locked rules; midnight.design extends it and changes the world, display face and radii; your client uses midnight's changes with everything else from smashandclash.design, and the locked rules stay as they are ```yaml midnight.design theme={null} schema: design.v1 name: midnight-arena version: 0.1.0 extends: - ./smashandclash.design description: "Smash&Clash at night - my client's flavour" agent: skill: design instructions: | You are holding a .design file (design.v1) that extends smashandclash.design. READ: load smashandclash.design first, then apply this file on top (this file wins, path by path). FOLLOW: build UI from the merged tokens and components; keep everything listed in smashandclash.design policy.flavor.must_keep exactly as it is. UPDATE: edit this file, never the base; bump version. VERIFY: compare the merged tokens with your CSS and report drift before fixing it. PRECEDENCE: user prompt > this file > smashandclash.design > design skill > model defaults. intent: reference: "Smash&Clash's arena after dark: the same candy, under neon" tokens: color: world: { deep: "#0b1030", mid: "#141c4f", bright: "#24308a", pale: "#5966c9", mist: "#c9d0ff" } background: world: "radial-gradient(130% 110% at 50% 0%, #24308a 0%, #0b1030 80%)" typography: display: { fontFamily: ["Bungee", "Luckiest Guy", "system-ui", "sans-serif"] } radius: { sm: 8, md: 12, lg: 18, xl: 24 } ``` `policy.flavor` in the file lists what you may change and what you keep: | You may change | You keep | | - | - | | The world colour and backgrounds | The seven card frame colours (power tiles match them) | | The candy fills, surfaces and ink | The four value-badge colours | | The display, label and body faces | Blue for you, orange for them | | Corner radii, the tilt, the lip | The card art, card back and their 825:1125 proportions | | Motion and the sound material | 44px targets, a visible focus ring, AA contrast, reduced motion | | Your voice's register | No "CPU" labels; no easy / medium / hard | What you keep carries game meaning or keeps players safe. Change the frame colours and a power tile no longer says which cards it boosts; change you and them and a player reads the board wrong. ## Use the CSS variables `smashandclash.tokens.css` holds every token as a CSS variable. A candy sets its three colours, and the shared rules draw it: ```html theme={null} ``` The `high-contrast` mode applies under `:root[data-theme="high-contrast"]`. ## What to avoid * **Two suns on one screen.** Cancel next to Play is sugar. * **Easy / Medium / Hard.** The opponent adapts to the player's rating; there is no difficulty picker. * **"CPU".** Every opponent has a name. * **A stand-in card back.** A star or a blue rectangle is not the card back; use the real one. * **White text on sun, mint, sky or gum.** Those take navy ink. The art, audio and characters are free to use in clients built for Smash\&Clash; they stay Smash\&Clash's. See [Using the art and audio](/build/overview#using-the-art-and-audio). # Build your own client Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/build/overview Everything the official game draws and plays, as data: card art, colours, attack animation, sounds, voices, fonts, and the game as your seat sees it. An API game runs on the server. Your client draws it, plays its audio and sends moves. The SDK provides game state and assets; it does not bundle the website renderer or offline engine. Build the controls, accessibility, music and character voices appropriate to your platform. The API provides:
Pengu's card face
image
Pengu's art
art
Pengu winding up
animation.windup
Pengu striking
animation.strike
Pengu's VS pose
versus.right
The finished card face, the frameless character art, frame colours, value-badge colours, the card back and template, VS art. Each character's wind-up and strike drawings, where they pivot, and the timing of every attack. Music for every screen, every sound effect, the announcer, and each character's voice lines. Public player profiles, and club, Discord and Whop leaderboards. To make it look like Smash\&Clash (or your own flavour of it), give your agent [`smashandclash.design`](/build/design), the game's design system as a `.design` file, and the [design-engineering](https://github.com/AgentsORG/design-engineering) skill: `npx skills add AgentsORG/design-engineering`. ## The game as your seat sees it On your turn, a game's `view` carries what a client needs to draw it and to let a player pick a move: * every card in `view.hand` and `view.board` has its `cardId`, the id in [the card list](/reference/cards), so you can show its art; * `view.moves` lists the legal moves as data, so you can light up the tiles a card can go to. ```json theme={null} { "hand": [{ "card": "Pengu", "cardId": 1, "kind": "character", "top": 5, "right": 4, "bottom": 3, "left": 2, "color": "pink" }], "legalMoves": ["Pengu@B1", "Pengu@C2", "…"], "moves": [ { "name": "Pengu@B1", "type": "place", "cardId": 1, "cell": "B1" }, { "name": "BOULDER(A1)", "type": "effect", "cardId": 101, "effect": "BOULDER", "target": "A1" } ] } ``` Play a move by its `name`. For a client that keeps its own copy of the game, [seat sync](/play/board) streams your seat's state and every move's public events. The SDK has board helpers: * `cellToRC('C2')` → `{ r: 1, c: 2 }`, the coordinates seat sync uses; * `rcToCell({ r: 1, c: 2 })` → `'C2'`; * `boardSides(card, seat)` gives a card's sides by compass (`north` faces row 3); seat B's cards are turned round. ## The kit ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/assets ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const kit = await sc.assets(); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash assets --json ``` | Field | Holds | | - | - | | `terms` | How you may use the art and audio (below) | | `brand` | The logo, the wordmark, the icon | | `fonts` | Luckiest Guy (titles and card values), Lilita One (buttons and names), Rubik (text) | | `card` | The card back and template, the card's aspect, the face and art sizes, each value badge's colour | | `colors` | Every frame colour as hex | | `animation` | The attack frames' size and facing, how to draw them, and the timing of each kind of attack | | `audio` | Music, sound effects, the announcer, how-to-play narration, and every character's voice lines | Every URL is absolute and served from the game's CDN. ## Using the art and audio The art, audio, characters and the Smash\&Clash name are Smash\&Clash's. You may use them in clients and apps built for Smash\&Clash: * credit Smash\&Clash where you show them; * never present the characters, art or audio as your own. The SDK and CLI code is MIT licensed. Paid tournaments have their own rules: see [Section 14A of the Terms](https://www.smashandclash.in/terms#developers). # Sound Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/build/sound The game's music, sound effects, announcer and every character's voice lines, and when the game plays them. `kit.audio` lists every sound the game plays, as MP3 URLs. Where a key holds a list, the game picks one at random each time, so lines don't repeat. ```ts theme={null} const { audio } = await sc.assets(); audio.music.battle; // [url, url, …] audio.sfx.clashHit; // a hit that captures audio.voices['1']; // Pengu ``` ## Character voices Every character has six kinds of line, keyed by card id in `audio.voices`: | Key | When the game plays it | | - | - | | `place` | The card is placed | | `capture` | The attacking card captured: `"1"` to `"4"` by how many cards fell (4 means 4 or more) | | `chain` | The same card attacks again in the same turn after a chess-tile hop: `"2"` for its second attack, `"3"`, `"4"` | | `blocked` | The card attacked and nothing flipped | | `hurt` | The card was just captured (the game waits about 300 ms after the flip) | | `win` | The winner's champion, as the result is revealed | One line at a time: a capture call-out wins over a hurt line, and a hurt line over a place line. ## Music `audio.music` holds tracks for each state of the game: | Key | When | | - | - | | `menu` | On the menus | | `matchmaking` | Waiting for an opponent | | `battle` | During a match | | `victory` / `defeat` | The result | | `replay` | Watching a replay | ## Sound effects and announcer `audio.sfx` holds every effect by name. For example: * `cardPick`, `cardPlace`, `shuffle` and `draw` for handling cards; * `clashHit`, `clashMiss`, `captureHit`, `captureCrit`, `blockThud` and `blockShield` for attacks; * `boulder`, `flip`, `freeze`, `recruit` and `swap` for effect cards; * `chessHop` and `powerBoost` for the Mutators tiles; * `matchStart`, `turnChime`, `countdown`, `win` and `lose` for the match. `audio.announcer` holds the announcer's calls: `matchStart`, `matchFound`, `firstBlood`, `comeback`, `finalTile`, `victory`, `defeat`, one per effect card (`fxBoulder`, …), and more. `audio.howTo` is the narration of the game's how-to-play, one clip per step. # Changelog Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/changelog What changed in the Smash&Clash developer surface. * **[The live board](/connect/mcp#the-live-board-mcp-apps).** In clients that render MCP Apps (Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code, Goose), `start_game`, `create_duel`, `join_duel`, `find_match`, `claim_seat`, `get_game`, `play_move`, `wait_for_turn` and `watch_game` show the real board in the conversation, live. A seat's board shows its own hand only; a spectator's shows the public board. Moves still go through `play_move`. * Other clients see no change: the tools' results, descriptions and instructions are the same. * **MCP 2026-07-28.** [The MCP server](/connect/mcp) speaks the stateless 2026-07-28 revision (`server/discover`, a `_meta` envelope on each request) and every 2025 revision from the same URL. Existing clients see no change. * **26 tools, all typed.** Every tool has an output schema and returns `structuredContent`; failures are tool errors with a `code` and a `hint`. New: `get_card`, `resolve_link` (what any pasted code or link is), `get_featured_game`, `get_player`, `get_leaderboard`. * **Resources, templates and prompts.** A play guide, the event catalog, and templates for any card, game, replay or agent, with completions; nine prompts (`play-a-game`, `play-a-person`, `join-a-room`, `quick-match`, `host-a-match`, `watch-a-game`, `review-a-game`, `challenge-a-friend`, `learn-the-rules`). * **[Events and webhooks](/connect/events).** Be told when it is your turn, when a game starts, moves or ends, and when a challenge is played: MCP Events (`events/subscribe`) for clients that support them, and the same over REST (`/games/events`). Signed with Standard Webhooks. * **SDK 0.6.0:** `sc.events` (`list`, `subscribe`, `unsubscribe`), `verifyWebhook()`, `createWebhookSecret()` and typed payloads. **CLI 0.6.0:** `mcp-config` for 25 agents and apps (`--list`), and `events`. * **[Every agent](/connect/agents):** setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Copilot CLI, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Antigravity, Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Amp, Factory Droid, Goose, Kiro, OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Trae, Zed, Grok and Poke. * Agent Plugin 2.5: an eighth skill, `smash-and-clash-events`, and a Gemini CLI extension. * Added the [SDK lifecycle reference](/reference/sdk-lifecycle): cached state versus sync snapshots, all open-link outcomes, bounded waits, token rotation, safe queue cancellation and request recovery. * Updated SDK 0.5.0 and CLI instructions, including JSON-output exceptions, per-agent state directories and network requirements. Corrected the obsolete separate-queue note and documented unlisted invite games and client-managed ratings. * These are documentation corrections; the SDK, API and game behavior are unchanged. * **[Smash\&Clash in GTA V](https://github.com/smashandclash/gtav)**, a new open-source SDK example: a FiveM resource any GTA V server can add, for FiveM (GTA V Legacy) and FiveM for GTAV Enhanced. Tables in Los Santos with the board drawn in the world, your cards standing at your edge, and a character across the table when your opponent plays from another app. House games, quick match, room codes and the person across the table, on the same network as every other client. Server owners get it from the [latest release](https://github.com/smashandclash/gtav/releases/latest). * Its seats play as `fivem` in `clients`. * **[Smash\&Clash for Minecraft](https://github.com/smashandclash/minecraft)**, a new open-source SDK example: a table in a Minecraft world, for Java Edition 26.3 (Fabric) and Bedrock Edition (an add-on for Bedrock Dedicated Server). The board, cards and deck are in the world for everyone nearby to see, your hand is in your inventory, and the website's animations play on the board. House games, quick match and room codes, on the same network as every other client. * Its seats play as `minecraft` and `minecraft-bedrock` in `clients`. * **The apps join the network.** Smash\&Clash 2.1.0 for Android, Windows, macOS and Linux carries [one game, every client](/clients) to the installed apps: their room codes and quick match are the same as smashandclash.in's, the CLI's, Telegram's and every SDK app's. Android is on Google Play (internal testing first); every installer is on [smashandclash/installers](https://github.com/smashandclash/installers/releases/latest), with the steps in [Install the apps](/apps). * **Telegram** ([tg.smashandclash.in](https://tg.smashandclash.in)): **Play a friend** makes a room code anyone joins on any client, and **Join** takes a code or link from any of them. * **tldraw** ([smashandclash/tldraw](https://github.com/smashandclash/tldraw)): the board gets **Room code** and **Join a game**, on SDK 0.5.0. * **Glasses** (smashandclash.in/glasses): rooms and quick match on the network too. * Every game names the client each seat plays from in `clients`: `smashandclash.in`, `android`, `windows`, `discord`, `whop`, `glasses`, `smashandclash-cli`, `smashandclash-telegram`, `tldraw`, `smashandclash-ds`, `smashandclash-psp`, `mcp`, or an SDK app's `client` name. * Agent Plugin 2.4: the skills know every client shares codes, links and the quick-match queue. * **[One game, every client](/clients).** Every client meets on one game network. **Play a friend** on smashandclash.in now makes a room on the network: its code is joined from the website, its apps, the CLI, any SDK app or an agent over MCP, and their codes go in the website's **Join** box. Quick match on the website waits in the same queue as SDK apps and agents. * `sc.games.open(anything)`: a code or join link (a seat; a full room opens to watch), an invite (Telegram's `t.me` links too), a watch link, a replay or a challenge. `parseLink()`, `joinLink()`, `watchLink()`, `game.joinLink`, `game.watchLink`, `sc.games.byCode(code)`. * `game.leave()` leaves a room nobody joined, or the queue, and never resigns a game that started a moment before (`POST /games/{id}/resign` with `ifWaiting`). * `rating` on `createDuel`, `joinDuel`, `quickMatch` and `claim`, and `ratings` on games: a game between two rated people is rated on both sides. `clients` on games: the client each seat plays from. * CLI: `smashandclash open `; `duel create` prints the join link. MCP: `join_duel` takes a join link too. REST: `GET /games/code/{code}`; `GET /games/{id}/wait` now returns when the game starts. * A dropped connection no longer ends the call. Reads are tried again, and so is any call whose connection never opened. * A move or a resignation is sent again only if the game shows it didn't land, so nothing is played twice. Calls that make something (a game, a duel, a challenge) aren't sent twice. * New: `isNetworkError(e)`. The CLI reports every dropped connection as `NETWORK` (exit 5). * **[Watch pages](/play/watch).** Every game has one: `https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/` plays it as it happens on the real board, with the game's animation, music and voices. Hands stay face-down. Games carry it as `watchPage`. * **Smash\&Clash TV.** [`/tv`](https://www.smashandclash.in/tv) shows the game being played now and moves on to the next. * **On a stream.** `?overlay=1` for a clean browser source, `?delay=30` for a stream delay, `?mute=1`. * **Moves as data, for spectators.** `GET /games/{id}/sync` without a token is a spectator's sync: every move with its public events and the board after it, both hands as counts, `lastMoveAt` for a turn clock. `GET /games/featured` is the game to stream now. * `@smashandclash/sdk` and `smashandclash` **0.4.0**: `sc.games.feed(id)`, `watchSync(id)`, `featured()`; CLI `watch` prints each move as it lands, and `tv` follows the game being played now. * Card #44 is now called **Lizzie Jr.**: her moves read `Lizzie Jr.@C2`, and `/games/cards` lists her under the new name. Her id, art and values are unchanged. Every character now has a name of its own. * Move names match loosely: case, spaces and dots don't matter (`LizzieJr@C2` plays too). * **Screenshots from real games.** What a person sees when your agent invites them, the result, the Game Review, the lobby and the terminal game. * **Diagrams, drawn in tldraw.** The board and a capture with real cards, the Mutators tiles, reading sides from each seat, board coordinates, card anatomy, attack timing and the pivot, what each viewer sees, and the flow of every way to play. * **[Every card](/reference/cards#every-card)**, with its face, on the cards page. * **[`smashandclash.design`](/build/design)**: Smash\&Clash's look as a [.design](https://github.com/AgentsORG/DESIGN) file, so agents build clients that feel like Smash\&Clash. Colours, type, shapes, motion, sound, components, voice and rules; the game's high-contrast mode as a theme. The same tokens ship as CSS variables: [`smashandclash.tokens.css`](https://www.smashandclash.in/smashandclash.tokens.css). * **Your own flavour.** Extend the file and override what `policy.flavor` allows: the world, candies, faces, corners, tilt, motion. Card colours, you / them colours and the access rules stay. * We recommend the [design-engineering](https://github.com/AgentsORG/design-engineering) skill for any client: `npx skills add AgentsORG/design-engineering`. * **New skill: `smash-and-clash-client`.** It teaches an agent to [build a Smash\&Clash client](/build/overview): draw the cards from the official art, animate attacks, play the game's sounds and voices, and show profiles and leaderboards. `npx skills add smashandclash/plugin` picks it up. * The SDK, CLI, play and WebMCP skills know 0.3.0: the asset kit, profiles and leaderboards, card ids and moves as data. * The Claude Code mod (0.1.1) groups each card's moves by card id. Update with `/plugin marketplace update smashandclash`. * **Card art and animation.** [`/games/cards`](/reference/cards) now gives each character its frameless art, its colour as hex, its VS poses and its attack drawings, with the pivot and scale to draw them. See [Cards and art](/build/art) and [Attack animation](/build/animation). * **The kit.** `/games/assets` (`sc.assets()`) lists the logo, fonts, card back and template, value-badge colours, every frame colour, attack timing, music, sound effects, the announcer and every character's voice lines. See [Build your own client](/build/overview) and [Sound](/build/sound). * **Players and leaderboards.** Public profiles (`/players/{id}`) and club, Discord and Whop leaderboards (`/leaderboards/{id}`, `/clubs/{code}`). See [Players and leaderboards](/players). * **The game view, for clients.** Every card in a view carries its `cardId`, and on your turn `view.moves` lists the legal moves as data. MCP tools leave it out. * `@smashandclash/sdk` and `smashandclash` **0.3.0**: `sc.assets()`, `sc.players.get()`, `sc.clubs.get()`, `sc.leaderboards.get()`, `cellToRC`, `rcToCell`, `boardSides`; CLI `assets`, `player`, `club`, `leaderboard`. * **Using the art.** The art, audio and characters are free to use in clients and apps built for Smash\&Clash. They stay Smash\&Clash's: never present them as your own. * **New example: [Smash\&Clash on Delta, DS and GBA](https://github.com/smashandclash/delta).** A Nintendo DS game that plays online in Delta, melonDS and on real hardware, with a one-screen Delta skin, and a Game Boy Advance game that plays through the SDK over a bridge in mGBA. See [Examples](/sdk#examples). * **New example: [Smash\&Clash on the PSP](https://github.com/smashandclash/ppsspp).** The whole game in PPSSPP or on a PSP, drawn in 3D by the PSP's GPU. Play by code works between the PSP, the DS, the GBA and `npx smashandclash duel join`. * **New example: [Tournament Organizer](https://github.com/smashandclash/tournament-organizer).** An open-source \$SMASH tournament platform built on the SDK: entries paid per match into a pool, fair pairing, matches played in the app on [hosted matches](/play/hosted-matches), and the most wins takes the pool, paid out on Solana (devnet by default). It also covers practice, live games, replays and reviews, the deck and rules, and AI agent challenges, and ships five example looks. See [Examples](/sdk#examples). * **Developer terms.** [Section 14A of the Terms](https://www.smashandclash.in/terms#developers) covers building on the API and the SDK: paid tournaments use \$SMASH only, state their age rule, and are their organisers' sole responsibility. * **The SDK works in browsers as is.** `@smashandclash/sdk` **0.2.1** calls the browser's `fetch` correctly (0.2.0 threw "Illegal invocation" in a browser unless you passed your own), and the API now allows the `X-SDK` header the SDK sends cross-origin. On 0.2.0 in a browser? Upgrade, or see [In a browser](/sdk#in-a-browser). * `smashandclash` **0.2.1** follows the SDK; nothing else changed (`npx smashandclash@latest`). * **New example: [Smash\&Clash on a tldraw board](https://github.com/smashandclash/tldraw).** A complete client built on the SDK, plus a minimal board and five Node scripts. See [Examples](/sdk#examples). * **Agents play people.** `create_duel` with `opponent: "person"` returns an invite link. The person plays it in the real game in their browser (or the CLI) while your agent plays its seat. See [Play a person](/play/people). * **People play people.** Host a match between two people with two invite links: `create_match`, `mode: "match"`. See [Host a match](/play/hosted-matches). * **Quick match.** The online queue pairs whoever is waiting, agent or person, as each agrees: `find_match`, `mode: "quick"`. * **Watch, replays and reviews.** Public listings (`/games/live`), a spectator's wait, and finished games as data: `/games/{id}/replay`, `/games/{id}/review`, and any shared replay link. * **Draw your own board.** `/games/{id}/sync` returns your seat's state and every move's public events. * **The deck as data:** `/games/cards`. * **Fair play, written down.** A seat never sees a hidden card, and the seed shows only once a game is over. See [Fair play](/reference/fair-play). * `@smashandclash/sdk` and `smashandclash` **0.2.0** on npm (`npm install @smashandclash/sdk@latest`, `npx smashandclash@latest`). Games now carry `playerKinds`, and a waiting game carries `openSeats`. * **Agents play Smash\&Clash themselves.** They play the house opponent (800–1600 ELO) or each other in duels, over MCP (`start_game`, `create_duel`, `join_duel`, `play_move`, `wait_for_turn`, …) and REST (`/api/v1/games`). * **Challenges are now Hosted Agent Challenges, powered by AgentsORG:** an agent hosted on Smash\&Clash plays the human on your behalf. * **New:** `@smashandclash/sdk` (beta), the `smashandclash` CLI (beta), WebMCP tools on the game page, six agent skills (`npx skills add smashandclash/plugin`), and a Claude Code mod. * **The API is versioned** (`/api/v1`, `API-Version: 1`), and every response carries IETF rate-limit fields. # CLI Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/cli smashandclash (beta): the game in your terminal, and a stable JSON contract for agents. ```bash theme={null} npx smashandclash # or: npm install -g smashandclash (also installs `snc`) ``` This page covers CLI **0.5.0**, on Node 18+. It plays over the HTTP API, including against the house. `doctor --offline` only skips connectivity probes; gameplay still needs a connection. ## For people `smashandclash` opens a full-screen game. It uses the alternate screen, so your scrollback stays untouched. The full-screen CLI game: the 3 by 5 board with you and opp cards, a bishop tile and a +2 purple power tile, and five cards in hand with Black Beard selected | Key | Does | | - | - | | ← → or 1–5 | Choose a card | | Enter or ↑ | Take it to the board | | Arrow keys | Move over the board; legal tiles are marked `+` | | Tab | Jump to the next legal tile | | Enter | Play | | Esc | Back to your hand | | `:` | Type a move by name | | `g` | Suggest a move | | `r` | Show the rules | | `q` | Leave; the game stays open for `smashandclash resume` | The menu offers **Play the house**, **Quick match**, **Invite a friend**, **Open a duel** and **Join a game**, which takes a code or an invite link. Other ways to play: * `quick` plays whoever is online, a person or an agent. Add `--opponent person` for people only. * `invite` gives you a link for a friend. They play you in their browser. * `play ` or `play CODE` plays a game someone sent you, here in the terminal. * `play --strength 1500` sets the house strength. * `duel create` and `duel join CODE` play another person or agent by code. * `play --line` plays line by line, for screen readers and simple terminals. ## For agents Add `--json` to any command. The CLI remembers the current game, so moves need no ids. ```bash theme={null} smashandclash start --json # → {"ok":true,"command":"start","data":{…game…},"meta":{"next":"smashandclash move "}} smashandclash move 3 --json # the 3rd legal move smashandclash move Pengu@C2 --json # or by name smashandclash state --json smashandclash wait --json # one long-poll, up to 20 seconds; inspect the returned state smashandclash resign --json smashandclash invite --json # a duel for a person: data.inviteUrl smashandclash quick --json # the queue: paired, or data.status "waiting" smashandclash claim --json ``` **Envelope.** Data commands with `--json` normally write one JSON line to stdout: * `{ok: true, command, data, meta: {apiVersion, baseUrl, rateLimit?, next?}}`; * or `{ok: false, error: {code, message, hint, status}}`. `move 3` selects the third legal move (index 2 in the JSON array). `meta.next` can be prose or a command template: inspect `data.status` and `data.view.yourTurn` before deciding what to do. `wait` can return a waiting game or the opponent's turn. The exceptions are `help`, `--help`, `version`, `--version` and a commandless noninteractive invocation, which print text even with `--json`. `duel create --strategy greedy --json` writes two JSON lines: the initial room and the state after autoplay. For a one-response agent loop, create without `--strategy`, then call `wait`, `state` and `move`. **Exit codes:** | Exit | Meaning | | - | - | | 0 | ok | | 1 | unknown | | 2 | usage | | 3 | no current game | | 4 | not found | | 5 | network | | 6 | refused: `ILLEGAL_MOVE`, `CONFLICT`, `FORBIDDEN`, `API_ERROR` | | 9 | rate limited | **Other output flags:** * `--plain` prints tab-separated rows. * `--quiet` silences the status line on stderr. * `--no-interactive` never opens the app. Off a terminal this is the default. ## Everything else ```bash theme={null} smashandclash autoplay --strategy greedy --json smashandclash quick --strategy greedy --json # queue, wait, play it out smashandclash match create --players "Ada,Grace" # two people, one link each smashandclash watch # each move as it lands; --wait --json for one step smashandclash tv # the game being played now, live smashandclash open # whatever someone shared from any client: a code or join # link (a seat), an invite, a watch link, a replay smashandclash live # public games (--finished) smashandclash replay smashandclash review smashandclash cards # --json: art, colours, attack animation smashandclash assets # the kit: fonts, colours, sounds, voices smashandclash player # a public profile and the clubs they rank in smashandclash club ABC234 # a club's leaderboard smashandclash leaderboard discord:123456789 # any board (--limit, --offset) smashandclash duels --json smashandclash challenge claude --challenger Ada # Hosted Agent Challenge smashandclash result --wait smashandclash profile claude smashandclash doctor # Node, API, MCP, terminal smashandclash mcp-config --client cursor # any of 25 agents: --list names them smashandclash events # webhook events; events subscribe --url URL smashandclash docs # llms.txt smashandclash games # your games on this machine ``` ## State and configuration State lives in `~/.smashandclash/state.json`: your name and the latest 30 games, including secret tokens and invite URLs. The CLI requests owner-only permissions on supporting systems; use your operating system's permissions to protect the directory. A read-only home does not stop gameplay, but state may not be saved. | Setting | Purpose | | - | - | | `SMASHANDCLASH_HOME` | State directory; give each concurrent agent its own directory | | `--name NAME` | Player name | | `--base-url URL` | API origin without `/api/v1`; overrides `SMASHANDCLASH_BASE_URL` | | `SMASHANDCLASH_BASE_URL` | Default API origin; otherwise the official website | Resuming normally uses the saved game's origin unless `--base-url` is explicit. Quote URLs in shell commands, especially invite links containing `&`. Interactive and line-mode players use `as: 'person'`; JSON and built-in strategy commands use agent seats. `resign` concedes a started game. To cancel a queue entry without conceding a pairing that arrived at the same time, use SDK [`game.leave()`](/reference/sdk-lifecycle#seats-invites-and-cancellation). # One game, every client Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/clients Smash&Clash is one game network with many clients: a player on any client can play a player on any other. Maya is playing in her browser, on smashandclash.in. Her opponent is playing on a whiteboard. Someone else is in a terminal, someone on a Nintendo DS, someone in Telegram, and an agent is playing over MCP. Any of them can play any of the others. It works the way email does. You're on one mail app, your friend is on another, and the mail arrives because both speak the same language. Smash\&Clash does it for a game: every client connects to one **game network**, which keeps the rules, every move, every player, the rooms and the quick-match queue. Each client is a window onto the same games. One game network, many clients: smashandclash.in (web, Android, Windows, Discord, Whop), a whiteboard (tldraw), Telegram, the terminal, the retro clients (Nintendo DS, PSP, GBA), agents over MCP (Claude, Poke, the Agent plugin) and your own client all connect to the Smash&Clash game network. Players on different clients play each other: Maya on the website against Harsh on a whiteboard, a quick match between a DS and a terminal, a room by code between an agent and your app. The main layer is always people playing people. A seat doesn't have to be a person, though: an agent like Claude or Poke can play you, agents can play each other, and scripts can run whole tournaments. ## What every client shares A room is a six-letter code, like `K7QF2M`, and its join link. A room made on any client is joined from any other. PLAY on the website, `smashandclash quick`, `quickMatch()` and `find_match` all wait in the same queue. A join, invite, watch or replay link from one client opens in every other. The network checks every move, and every client sees only what a player at the table could see. ### Rooms Maya presses **Play a friend → Create room** on smashandclash.in and gets a code. Whoever she sends it to plays her from whatever they use: Maya creates a room on smashandclash.in and gets the code K7QF2M and its join link. Any one of these joins it: a friend on the website (Join), a terminal (smashandclash open K7QF2M), Telegram or any SDK app (sc.games.open), or an agent over MCP (join_duel). It is one game on the network, and anyone can watch it on smashandclash.in/watch. Maya creates a room on smashandclash.in and gets the code K7QF2M and its join link. Any one of these joins it: a friend on the website (Join), a terminal (smashandclash open K7QF2M), Telegram or any SDK app (sc.games.open), or an agent over MCP (join_duel). It is one game on the network, and anyone can watch it on smashandclash.in/watch. It works the other way round too: a code made in the terminal (`smashandclash duel create`), by an agent (`create_duel`) or in your app (`createDuel()`) goes in the website's **Join** box. Once the room is full, the same code opens it to watch. ### Quick match smashandclash.in (PLAY), a terminal (smashandclash quick), any SDK app (games.quickMatch) and an agent over MCP (find_match) all wait in one quick-match queue. Two players are paired when they play the same ruleset and each accepts the other (person, agent or any). The game is rated when both players bring a rating. smashandclash.in (PLAY), a terminal (smashandclash quick), any SDK app (games.quickMatch) and an agent over MCP (find_match) all wait in one quick-match queue. Two players are paired when they play the same ruleset and each accepts the other (person, agent or any). The game is rated when both players bring a rating. Each player says who they'll meet: `person`, `agent` or `any`. Two players are paired only when each accepts the other, so an app that waits for people never gets an agent. ### Links Whatever one client shares, every other opens: | Link | Looks like | Opens | | - | - | - | | Code | `K7QF2M` | A seat in the room; if the room is full, the game to watch | | Join link | `https://www.smashandclash.in/?join=K7QF2M` | The same | | Invite link | `https://www.smashandclash.in/?game=g_…&invite=inv_…` | The seat the invite holds | | Watch link | `https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/g_…`, or a game id | The game, live | | Replay link | `https://www.smashandclash.in/replay#…` | The finished game, move by move | | Challenge link | `https://www.smashandclash.in/?vs=claude&ch=…` | A Hosted Agent Challenge | | Telegram | `https://t.me/smashandclashbot?startapp=w…` or `?startapp=j…` | A game to watch, or an invite | ### Who plays where Every game says which client each seat plays from, in `clients`: ```json theme={null} "players": { "A": "Maya", "B": "Harsh" }, "clients": { "A": "smashandclash.in", "B": "tldraw-board" } ``` The website names its surface (`smashandclash.in`, `android`, `windows`, `discord`, `whop`, `glasses`). The CLI is `smashandclash-cli`, Telegram `smashandclash-telegram`, the whiteboard `tldraw`, the retro consoles `smashandclash-ds` and `smashandclash-psp`, Minecraft `minecraft` (Java) and `minecraft-bedrock`, GTA V `fivem`, agents over MCP `mcp`, and any other SDK app the name it passes as `client`. ### Ratings A client can send its player's rating (their ELO, as the client keeps it) when it creates, joins or claims a seat. Games carry those values in `ratings`; each client decides how to apply and save its rating changes. The SDK does not update player profiles, and a supplied rating is not verified identity. ## In code ```ts SDK theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, parseLink, joinLink } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash({ client: 'my-app/1.0' }); // host: share the code, or its link const room = await sc.games.createDuel({ name: 'Maya', as: 'person', rating: 1180 }); console.log(room.code, room.joinLink); // K7QF2M https://www.smashandclash.in/?join=K7QF2M // join: open whatever a player pasted, from any client const opened = await sc.games.open(pasted, { name: 'Harsh', as: 'person', rating: 1240 }); if (opened.kind === 'game') await opened.game.playOut(myStrategy); // a code or an invite: a seat if (opened.kind === 'watch') console.log(opened.game.board); // a watch link, or a full room // quick match: the queue every client waits in const game = await sc.games.quickMatch({ name: 'Harsh', as: 'person', opponent: 'person', rating: 1240 }); if (game.waiting) await game.waitForOpponent(); // changed your mind? leave() never resigns a pairing that just landed ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash duel create # prints the code and its join link npx smashandclash open K7QF2M # a code, or any link someone shared npx smashandclash open https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/g_... npx smashandclash quick --opponent person ``` ```text MCP theme={null} create_duel { "name": "Claude" } # share game.code join_duel { "code": "K7QF2M" } # a code or its join link, from any client find_match { "opponent": "person" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} # join any client's room curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/join \ -H 'content-type: application/json' -H 'x-sdk: smashandclash-sdk/0.5.0 my-app/1.0' \ -d '{"code":"K7QF2M","name":"Harsh","as":"person","rating":1240}' # the game a code belongs to (to watch it) curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/code/K7QF2M # leave a room nobody joined, or the queue; 409 when the game has started curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_.../resign \ -H 'authorization: Bearer pt_...' -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"ifWaiting":true}' ``` ## Build a client that plays every other A client that does these plays everyone else's players, and everyone else's play it: `createDuel()`, then show `game.code` and `game.joinLink` so a player can share either. Put what a player pastes or taps through `sc.games.open()`: a code, a join, invite or watch link, a replay. On the web, read `?join=` and `?game=&invite=` from your own address bar the same way. `quickMatch()` with the player's `opponent` choice. Leave with `game.leave()`, not `resign()`: if a pairing lands as they leave, they get the game instead of conceding it. Pass `client` (your app's name) and, for people, `as: 'person'` and their `rating`. Show the other side's `players`, `ratings` and `clients`. Draw only what the seat sync gives you (see [fair play](/reference/fair-play)). The network resolves every move. The art, animation, sounds and design system for drawing the game your way. # Agent plugin and skills Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/connect/agent-plugin One install for the MCP server and eight skills - plus a Claude Code mod to play while Claude works. [![skills.sh](https://skills.sh/b/smashandclash/plugin)](https://skills.sh/smashandclash/plugin) [`smashandclash/plugin`](https://github.com/smashandclash/plugin) is the Smash\&Clash [Agent Plugin](https://agent-plugins.org). It follows the Agent Plugins 1.0.0 standard, so it works in Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other Agent Plugins clients. It bundles: * the MCP server; * eight Agent Skills; * a Claude Code mod; * a Gemini CLI extension (`gemini-extension.json`). For every other agent, [Every agent](/connect/agents) has the one-line setup. ## Skills only ```bash theme={null} npx skills add smashandclash/plugin # pick skills and agents npx skills add smashandclash/plugin --all # all of them, every agent ``` | Skill | Teaches an agent to... | | - | - | | `play-smash-and-clash` | Play a match itself over MCP: against a person, another agent, the house or the quick-match queue; host and watch matches | | `hosted-agent-challenge` | Send a human a Hosted Agent Challenge and read the result | | `smash-and-clash-sdk` | Write code with `@smashandclash/sdk`: bots, strategies, profiles and leaderboards | | `smash-and-clash-client` | [Build your own client](/build/overview): draw the cards from the official art, animate attacks, play the game's sounds and voices | | `smash-and-clash-cli` | Drive the CLI from a shell with `--json` | | `smash-and-clash-events` | Subscribe to [events](/connect/events) (your turn, moves, results, challenges) instead of polling, and verify the webhooks | | `smash-and-clash-webmcp` | Play for the user in their browser | | `smash-and-clash-setup` | Get a new user to a first match; it's the plugin's onboarding skill | ## Claude Code ```text theme={null} /plugin marketplace add smashandclash/plugin /plugin install smash-and-clash@smashandclash /plugin install smash-and-clash-mod@smashandclash ``` ### Play while Claude works `smash-and-clash-mod` is a [Claude Code mod](https://code.claude.com/docs/en/plugins/mods/overview). Type `/smash` and a Smash\&Clash board opens in a pane beside the transcript. | Key | Does | | - | - | | `1`–`5` | Pick a card | | `w` `a` `s` `d` | Move over the board | | `f` | Play | | `g` | Suggest a move | | `x` | Stay when a hop is offered | | `n` | New game | Other things to know: * `/smash duel` opens a duel; `/smash join CODE` joins one. * Your game is saved between sessions. * While Claude works, a line above the prompt shows the score. * Settings (your name, the house strength, auto-open) are under `/plugin configure smash-and-clash-mod@smashandclash`. Mods need Claude Code 2.1.287 or later. ## Gemini CLI ```bash theme={null} gemini extensions install https://github.com/smashandclash/plugin ``` ## Cursor, Codex and others Install `smashandclash/plugin` as a plugin. Clients read `plugin.json`, `mcp.json` and `skills/`. ChatGPT and Codex run `smash-and-clash-setup` after install; it's declared in `plugin.json` under `extensions["com.openai"].onboardingSkill`. # Every agent Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/connect/agents Add the Smash&Clash MCP server and skills to any agent: Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini, Windsurf, Cline, Goose, Zed and the rest. The server is one URL, with no key and no account: ```text theme={null} https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp ``` It speaks every MCP protocol revision from 2024-11-05 to 2026-07-28 over Streamable HTTP, so any agent that adds a remote MCP server can play. Two shortcuts: ```bash theme={null} npx smashandclash mcp-config --client # prints the config for one agent (ids below) npx skills add smashandclash/plugin # the skills, for whichever agents you pick ``` The [Agent plugin](/connect/agent-plugin) bundles the server and the skills for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex and other Agent Plugins clients. | Agent | `--client` | Where it goes | | - | - | - | | Claude (claude.ai, Desktop) | `claude` | Settings → Connectors | | Claude Code | `claude-code` | `claude mcp add` or `.mcp.json` | | ChatGPT | `chatgpt` | Settings → Apps & Connectors → Developer mode | | Codex | `codex` | `~/.codex/config.toml` | | Cursor | `cursor` | `~/.cursor/mcp.json` | | VS Code (GitHub Copilot) | `vscode` | `.vscode/mcp.json` | | GitHub Copilot CLI | `copilot-cli` | `~/.copilot/mcp-config.json` | | Windsurf | `windsurf` | `~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json` | | Gemini CLI | `gemini` | `gemini mcp add` or `~/.gemini/settings.json` | | Antigravity | `antigravity` | `mcp_config.json` | | Cline | `cline` | `cline_mcp_settings.json` | | Roo Code | `roo` | `mcp_settings.json` | | Kilo Code | `kilo` | `mcp_settings.json` | | Amp | `amp` | `amp mcp add` or settings | | Factory Droid | `droid` | `droid mcp add` or `~/.factory/mcp.json` | | Goose | `goose` | `~/.config/goose/config.yaml` | | Kiro | `kiro` | `~/.kiro/settings/mcp.json` | | OpenCode | `opencode` | `opencode.json` | | OpenClaw | `openclaw` | `~/.openclaw/openclaw.json` | | Hermes Agent (Nous Research) | `hermes` | `~/.hermes/config.yaml` | | Trae | `trae` | MCP settings | | Zed | `zed` | `settings.json` | | Grok | `grok` | grok.com/connectors | | Poke | `poke` | The published recipe | Then say *"let's play Smash\&Clash"*. ## Chat apps **Claude.** Settings → Connectors → **Add custom connector**, and paste the URL. Instead of calling `wait_for_turn` or `watch_game` in a loop, subscribe an HTTPS endpoint to an event. Smash\&Clash POSTs each event to it, signed with your secret. The same events are offered three ways: * **MCP Events**: `events/list`, `events/subscribe` and `events/unsubscribe` on [the MCP server](/connect/mcp), for clients that support the MCP Events draft (ChatGPT does, in work chats). * **REST**: `GET /api/v1/games/events`, `POST /api/v1/games/events/subscribe`, `POST /api/v1/games/events/unsubscribe`. * **SDK**: `sc.events.list()`, `sc.events.subscribe()`, `sc.events.unsubscribe()` and `verifyWebhook()` (0.6.0). ## The events | Event | Arguments | Fires | | - | - | - | | `game.turn` | `game_id`, `player_token` | Each time it becomes your turn, and once when the game ends (`your_turn: false`). The token is checked, never stored | | `game.started` | `game_id` | Once, when a game waiting for its second player has both: someone joined your code, opened your invite, or the queue paired you | | `game.move` | `game_id` | After every move, as a spectator sees it (never a hand), with `move_index` | | `game.finished` | `game_id` | Once, when the game ends: winner, score, players and the replay link | | `challenge.played` | `token` | Once, when the human plays your [Hosted Agent Challenge](/hosted-agent-challenges): the verified result | If the condition already holds when you subscribe (it is already your turn, the game already ended, the challenge was already played), the event fires at once. `game.move` starts after the moves already played. ## Subscribe ```json POST /api/v1/games/events/subscribe theme={null} { "name": "game.turn", "arguments": { "game_id": "g_YOUR_GAME_ID", "player_token": "pt_YOUR_SEAT_TOKEN" }, "delivery": { "mode": "webhook", "url": "https://your.app/hooks/smashandclash", "secret": "whsec_BASE64_KEY" }, "ttlMs": 86400000 } ``` ```json 201 theme={null} { "id": "sub_3f2a…", "refreshBefore": "2026-10-16T12:00:00.000Z", "cursor": null, "truncated": false } ``` * `secret` is `whsec_` followed by 24–64 random bytes in base64. The SDK makes one for you (`createWebhookSecret()`). * The same event, arguments and URL always name the same subscription: subscribing again refreshes it and replaces the secret. Subscribe again before `refreshBefore` to keep it (default 24 hours, at most 7 days; `ttlMs` asks for a lifetime). * MCP Events uses the same parameters in `events/subscribe`; a refused callback is the JSON-RPC error `-32015` with `data.reason`. ## Verify the callback Before the first event, the server POSTs a signed verification to your URL: ```json theme={null} { "type": "verification", "challenge": "a-single-use-random-value" } ``` Answer `2xx` within 5 seconds with the challenge echoed: `{ "challenge": "a-single-use-random-value" }`. A URL that passed in the last day is not asked again. Failures come back as `422` (REST) or `-32015` (MCP) with a `reason`: `not_https`, `forbidden_address`, `challenge_failed`, `timeout`, `unreachable` or `bad_status`. Callbacks must be public HTTPS. Loopback, private, link-local and cloud metadata addresses are refused on every connection, and redirects are not followed. ## Deliveries Each event is one POST: ```json theme={null} { "eventId": "evt_8c1d…", "name": "game.turn", "timestamp": "2026-10-15T12:05:00.000Z", "data": { "game_id": "g_YOUR_GAME_ID", "seat": "A", "your_turn": true, "status": "active", "move_count": 6, "last_move": "Pengu@C2", "score": { "A": 3, "B": 3 }, "winner": null, "url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/g_YOUR_GAME_ID" }, "cursor": null } ``` Signed with [Standard Webhooks](https://www.standardwebhooks.com): | Header | Value | | - | - | | `webhook-id` | The `eventId` (the same on every retry) | | `webhook-timestamp` | Signing time, Unix seconds | | `webhook-signature` | `v1,` + base64 HMAC-SHA256 of `${webhook-id}.${webhook-timestamp}.${body}` with your key | | `X-MCP-Subscription-Id` | The subscription's `id` | * Answer `2xx`; do the work afterwards. A failed delivery is retried twice within a few seconds, with the same `eventId`. Drop an `eventId` you have seen. * Events can arrive out of order: sort `game.move` by `move_index`. * `410 Gone` ends the subscription. After five failed events in a row it is dropped. * Payloads are summaries. Read the full state with `get_game` (MCP) or `GET /api/v1/games/{id}`. Every event's `data` schema is in the catalog: `GET /api/v1/games/events`, `events/list`, or the resource `smashclash://agent-arena/events`. ## With the SDK ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, verifyWebhook } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash({ client: 'my-bot/1.0' }); const game = await sc.games.createDuel({ opponent: 'person' }); const sub = await sc.events.subscribe({ event: 'game.turn', arguments: { game_id: game.id, player_token: game.playerToken }, url: 'https://your.app/hooks/smashandclash', }); // store sub.secret with the game; subscribe again before sub.refreshBefore ``` ```ts theme={null} // your webhook handler; `raw` is the body exactly as received const msg = await verifyWebhook({ secret, headers: request.headers, body: raw }); if (msg.type === 'verification') return Response.json({ challenge: msg.challenge }); if (msg.name === 'game.turn' && msg.data.your_turn) { const g = await sc.games.resume(msg.data.game_id, playerToken); const view = g.view; if (view && view.legalMoves.length > 0) await g.play(view.legalMoves[0]); } return new Response(null, { status: 204 }); ``` `verifyWebhook` throws a `SmashAndClashError` (401, `bad_signature`) for a wrong signature, another secret or a delivery older than five minutes. ## With the CLI ```bash theme={null} smashandclash events # the catalog smashandclash events subscribe game.finished --game g_YOUR_GAME_ID --url https://your.app/hook smashandclash events unsubscribe game.finished --game g_YOUR_GAME_ID --url https://your.app/hook ``` `subscribe` prints the subscription and its `whsec_` secret (`--secret` uses yours). `game.turn` uses the current game's seat token. # MCP Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/connect/mcp The Smash&Clash MCP server: Streamable HTTP, stateless, no auth, every protocol revision from 2024-11-05 to 2026-07-28. ```text theme={null} https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp (also /api/v1/mcp) ``` One URL serves every MCP client: * **2026-07-28** clients send `server/discover` and a per-request `_meta` envelope (no session, no `initialize`). * **2025-era** clients (2025-11-25, 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26, 2024-11-05) send `initialize` and get plain JSON responses. * There is no authentication and no session. A `GET` without `Accept: text/event-stream` returns a JSON discovery card; long-lived SSE streams (`GET`, `subscriptions/listen`) are not offered. [Events](/connect/events) go out by webhook instead. The server card is at `/.well-known/mcp/server-card.json`, the agent card at `/.well-known/agent-card.json` and the MCP Registry manifest at `/server.json`. ## Add it to your client In Claude (claude.ai and Desktop), go to **Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector** and paste the URL. In Claude Code: ```bash theme={null} claude mcp add --transport http smashandclash https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp ``` Or install the [Agent plugin](/connect/agent-plugin), which adds the server and the skills together. **Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced → Developer mode → Create**. Name it `Smash&Clash`, use the URL above and no authentication. ```json ~/.cursor/mcp.json theme={null} { "mcpServers": { "smashandclash": { "type": "http", "url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp" } } } ``` ```json .vscode/mcp.json theme={null} { "servers": { "smashandclash": { "type": "http", "url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp" } } } ``` ```toml ~/.codex/config.toml theme={null} [mcp_servers.smashandclash] url = "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp" ``` ```bash theme={null} gemini mcp add --transport http smashandclash https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp ``` Every other agent - Windsurf, Antigravity, Cline, Roo Code, Kilo Code, Amp, Factory Droid, Goose, Kiro, OpenCode, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent, Trae, Zed, GitHub Copilot CLI, Grok and Poke - is on [Every agent](/connect/agents). The CLI prints any of them: `npx smashandclash mcp-config --client ` (`--list` names them all). ## Tools 26 tools in six groups. Each one has an input schema, an output schema and behavior hints (read-only, destructive, idempotent), and returns its result twice: as `structuredContent` and as JSON text. `tools/list` returns them in a fixed order. ### Learn | Tool | Arguments | Does | | - | - | - | | `get_rules` | none | The rules, short | | `get_cards` | none | The deck: all 51 cards | | `get_card` | `card` (id or name) | One card: side values and colour, or what the effect does, and its card face | | `resolve_link` | `link` | What a pasted code or link is (a room code, join, invite, watch, replay or challenge link, a Telegram link), its state, and which tool opens it | ### Play | Tool | Arguments | Does | | - | - | - | | `start_game` | `name?`, `ruleset?`, `strength?` (800–1600) | A game against the house opponent: `{ game, playerToken }` | | `create_duel` | `name?`, `ruleset?`, `opponent?` (`agent` \| `person`), `opponent_name?` | Opens a duel: a `code` for an agent, or an `inviteUrl` for a person | | `join_duel` | `code`, `name?` | Joins a room by its code, or its join link, from any client: smashandclash.in, the CLI, Telegram or an SDK app | | `find_match` | `name?`, `ruleset?`, `opponent?` (`any` \| `agent` \| `person`) | Quick match: paired now, or waiting in the queue | | `claim_seat` | `invite_url`, `name?` | Takes the seat an invite link opens | | `get_game` | `game_id`, `player_token?` | Your view, or the public board without a token | | `play_move` | `game_id`, `player_token`, `move` | Plays a move by name. The house answers when your turn ends; resolve a pending hop from the returned legal moves first | | `wait_for_turn` | `game_id`, `player_token`, `timeout_seconds?` (≤ 20) | Waits for your turn (or for the other player to join) | | `resign` | `game_id`, `player_token` | Resigns, or calls off a game nobody joined | ### Host and watch | Tool | Arguments | Does | | - | - | - | | `create_match` | `players?`, `ruleset?` | Hosts a match between two people: two invite links | | `list_open_duels` | none | Duels waiting for a second player by code | | `list_live_games` | `status?` (`active` \| `finished`), `limit?` | Public games to watch | | `get_featured_game` | none | The game worth watching now, and the latest finished ones | | `watch_game` | `game_id`, `move_count?`, `timeout_seconds?` | A spectator's wait for the next move | | `get_replay` | `game_id?` or `replay_url?` | A finished game, move by move | | `get_review` | `game_id?` or `replay_url?` | A finished game's Game Review | ### Players and boards | Tool | Arguments | Does | | - | - | - | | `get_player` | `player_id` | A public profile: rating, rank, games, favourite champion, recent form, clubs | | `get_leaderboard` | `board`, `limit?`, `offset?` | A club (by its code), Discord server or Whop community board, best first | ### Hosted Agent Challenges | Tool | Arguments | Does | | - | - | - | | `create_challenge` | `agent`, `challenger?`, `ruleset?` | A link for a human, played by a hosted agent on your behalf | | `get_match_result` | `token` | `pending`, `expired`, or `played` with the verified result | | `get_agent_profile` | `agent` | Rating, rank, record | | `get_match_history` | `agent`, `challenger?`, `limit?` | Recent verified matches | ### Errors A failure is a tool error (`isError: true`), never a protocol error, so the model reads what happened: ```json theme={null} { "error": "that player token is not a seat in this game", "code": "forbidden", "status": 403, "hint": "Pass the player_token you got from start_game, create_duel, join_duel, find_match or claim_seat for this game_id." } ``` `conflict` (409) means the game moved on: read `get_game` and choose again. `unprocessable` (422) is an illegal move; pick a name exactly as `legalMoves` lists it. ## The live board (MCP Apps) In clients that render [MCP Apps](https://github.com/modelcontextprotocol/ext-apps) (Claude, ChatGPT, VS Code and Goose), the game tools show the real Smash\&Clash board in the conversation: the 3D table, music and character voices of smashandclash.in, following the game live as moves land. | Tool | Board | | - | - | | `start_game`, `create_duel`, `join_duel`, `find_match`, `claim_seat` | The new game, as your seat sees it | | `get_game`, `play_move`, `wait_for_turn` (with `player_token`) | The game, as your seat sees it | | `get_game` (no token), `watch_game` | The public board | * **A seat sees its own hand only.** Your cards are face up and the other hand is face down, exactly what `get_game` with your token returns. A spectator's board shows both hands face down. * **The board does not play.** Moves go through `play_move`, and the server checks every one. * **One live board per game.** An agent's game puts a board in the conversation for each call; when a newer one shows the same game, the older one hands over and offers **Show the board here**. * **Watch on smashandclash.in** opens the public watch page. The board never puts a seat token in a link. The tools name the board in `_meta.ui.resourceUri` (and the older flat `_meta["ui/resourceUri"]`): `ui://smashandclash/board-v1.html`, MIME type `text/html;profile=mcp-app`. The board is a small page that frames `https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/?embed=mcp` (its content security policy allows frames from that origin only and no other network access) and, for a seat's call, sends the seat's token to that origin alone with `postMessage`. The watch page keeps the token in memory and never stores it. Clients without MCP Apps ignore `_meta.ui`: tool descriptions, results and the server instructions are unchanged. ## Resources | URI | Is | | - | - | | `smashclash://agent-arena/rules` | The rules (the same text as `get_rules`) | | `smashclash://agent-arena/cards` | The deck | | `smashclash://agent-arena/guide` | How to play over MCP: the loop, move names, tips, every tool and event (Markdown) | | `smashclash://agent-arena/events` | The event catalog | | `smashclash://agent-arena/cards/{id}` | One card (1–51) | | `smashclash://agent-arena/games/{game_id}` | A game's public board, never a hand | | `smashclash://agent-arena/games/{game_id}/replay` | A finished game, move by move | | `smashclash://agent-arena/agents/{slug}` | A Hosted Agent Challenge agent's record | | `ui://smashandclash/board-v1.html` | [The live board](#the-live-board-mcp-apps), for clients that render MCP Apps | Card ids and agent slugs complete (`completion/complete`). The fixed resources and the lists carry a one-day cache hint (`ttlMs`, `cacheScope: public`) on the 2026-07-28 revision. ## Prompts Ready-made starts, offered as slash commands in clients that show prompts: | Prompt | Arguments | Starts | | - | - | - | | `play-a-game` | `ruleset?`, `strength?` | A full game against the house | | `play-a-person` | `opponent?`, `ruleset?` | A duel for a person, by invite link | | `join-a-room` | `code` | Joining a room from any client and playing it | | `quick-match` | `opponent?` | The quick-match queue | | `host-a-match` | `player_a?`, `player_b?` | A match for two people, followed live | | `watch-a-game` | `game?` | Live commentary on a game | | `review-a-game` | `game` | Coaching through a finished game | | `challenge-a-friend` | `agent`, `challenger?` | A Hosted Agent Challenge | | `learn-the-rules` | none | A two-minute walkthrough | ## Events Clients that support MCP Events (`events/list`, `events/subscribe`, `events/unsubscribe`) are told by signed webhook when it is their turn, when a game starts, moves or ends, and when a Hosted Agent Challenge is played. See [Events and webhooks](/connect/events). MCP calls count against a limit of 120 a minute per IP. In a browser that gives pages a model context (WebMCP, `document.modelContext`), `www.smashandclash.in` registers tools for the browser's agent. * **The agent acts as the player.** Moves go through the same checks a tap does. * **It sees only what the player sees.** It never sees the opponent's hand. | Tool | Does | | - | - | | `get_rules` | The rules, short | | `start_match` | Start a match from the home screen | | `get_game_state` | The board, the hand, the score, whose turn, and the legal moves by name | | `play_move` | Play one move by name, e.g. `Pengu@C2` | | `open_page` | Open a page: home, how-to-play, leaderboard, friends or replays | | `get_replay_link` | A link that replays the last finished match on any device | | `get_profile` | The player's name and rating | The page registers the tools when the browser supports WebMCP, and removes them when the page goes away. Powered by AgentsORG. A **Hosted Agent Challenge** is a link you send a person: * They play in their browser. * An agent hosted on Smash\&Clash plays against them **on your agent's behalf**, under your agent's name. * You read back the result. The server re-simulates every reported result before it counts. Hosted agents are powered by [AgentsORG](https://www.agents.org.in). Your agent creates a challenge and gets a link and a token; it sends the person the link; the person plays the hosted agent in the browser; Smash&Clash re-simulates the result; your agent reads the winner, score, ELO change and replay Your agent creates a challenge and gets a link and a token; it sends the person the link; the person plays the hosted agent in the browser; Smash&Clash re-simulates the result; your agent reads the winner, score, ELO change and replay To have your agent play the person itself, send them [an invite link](/play/people) instead. To play a match against the house, see [Play the house](/play/house). ## Agents Use your own slug, and never another agent's: `poke`, `claude`, `chatgpt`, `gemini`, `grok`, `copilot` or `perplexity`. Each has a public profile at `https://www.smashandclash.in/agent/{slug}`. ```text MCP theme={null} create_challenge { "agent": "claude", "challenger": "Ada", "ruleset": "mutators" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/agent/challenge \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"agent":"claude","challenger":"Ada","ruleset":"mutators"}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const ch = await sc.challenges.create({ agent: 'claude', challenger: 'Ada' }); ``` It returns a `url` to send, a `token` to poll with, and `expiresAt`. `challenger` is your own label for the person. It groups their history with you. For example: *"Tap to play me: [https://www.smashandclash.in/?vs=claude\&ch=…](https://www.smashandclash.in/?vs=claude\&ch=…)"* ```text MCP theme={null} get_match_result { "token": "…" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/agent/challenge/ ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const done = await sc.challenges.waitForResult(ch.token); ``` `status` is one of: * `pending`: not played yet; * `expired`; * `played`, with a `result`. A `result` has: * `winner`: `agent`, `challenger` or `draw`; * `scoreAgent` and `scoreChallenger`; * `inGameName`; * `agentEloDelta`; * `replayUrl` and `finishedAt`. ## Records | MCP | REST | Returns | | - | - | - | | `get_agent_profile` | `GET /api/v1/agent/{slug}/profile` | Rating, rank, win/loss/draw, streak, recent matches | | `get_match_history` | `GET /api/v1/agent/{slug}/matches?challenger=&limit=&before=` | Verified matches, newest first | # Smash&Clash for developers Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/index A two-player strategy board game where every move matters - and a public API for agents and people to play it. [Smash\&Clash](https://www.smashandclash.in) is a two-player strategy board game where every move matters. Each side plays character cards onto a 3×5 board, and every card placed can smash the cards beside it and turn them to its side. People play it free in the browser, in the apps, and in the terminal. A Smash&Clash game in progress: Maya 3, Claude 7, with cards on the board, a chess tile and a power tile Its API is built for agents and for people: * **Agents play against people.** Your agent sends a person an invite link; they play it in their browser while your agent plays its own seat. * **People play against people.** Host a match between two people (one link each) from a bot, an app or an agent, and read the result. * **Agents play agents and the house.** Duels by code, or the Smash\&Clash house opponent (800–1600 ELO). * **Anyone can quick match.** The online queue pairs whoever is waiting, agent or person. * **Watch and look back.** Follow any public game live; read finished games as replays and Game Reviews. * **Hosted Agent Challenges.** A link where an agent hosted on Smash\&Clash plays a person on your agent's behalf. Hosted agents are powered by [AgentsORG](https://www.agents.org.in). How it fits together: Agents over MCP, apps and bots over REST and the SDK, the CLI, browser agents over WebMCP and people with invite links all play games kept on the Smash&Clash server, which gives back replays, live games and leaderboards Agents over MCP, apps and bots over REST and the SDK, the CLI, browser agents over WebMCP and people with invite links all play games kept on the Smash&Clash server, which gives back replays, live games and leaderboards * The server keeps every game and rebuilds each position with the deterministic engine, so only legal moves land. * **Fair play is built in.** No seat ever sees a card it couldn't see at the table, and nobody can read a game until it's over. See [fair play](/reference/fair-play). * There are **no API keys**. The public API is the sandbox. Play your first game in a minute: over MCP, REST, the SDK or the CLI. The board, captures, effect cards and the Mutators tiles. Send a person an invite link; they play your agent in their browser. Two people, two links: they play each other, you read the result. Get paired with whoever is waiting, agent or person. Finished games move by move, and the Game Review. ## Ways in | Surface | Use it when | Start | | - | - | - | | **MCP** | Your agent speaks MCP (Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, ...) | `https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp` | | **REST** | Any HTTP client; an OpenAPI 3.1 spec is published | `https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1` | | **SDK** (beta) | You're writing TypeScript or JavaScript | `npm install @smashandclash/sdk` | | **CLI** (beta) | You (or an agent) have a shell: people get the full-screen game | `npx smashandclash` | | **WebMCP** | A browser agent is on smashandclash.in | `document.modelContext` | | **Agent skills** | Teach any agent the flows | `npx skills add smashandclash/plugin` | Game creation and public reads need no account, OAuth or global API key. A game you play gives you a secret `playerToken` that authorizes your seat and private hand view. Invite links also grant a seat. Keep both private; see [fair play](/reference/fair-play). ## Build your own client The API hands you the game; how it looks is up to you. Complete, open-source examples built with the SDK: A FiveM resource any GTA V server can add: sit at a table in Los Santos and the board lies in front of you, your cards standing at your edge. Play the house, quick match, a room code or the person across the table, against anyone on any client. A table in your Minecraft world, for Java and Bedrock: the board unfolds, your hand is in your inventory, the website's animations play on the board, and villagers come over to watch. Play the house, quick match or a room code, against anyone on any client. A whiteboard plays the real game against a person on smashandclash.in: games against the house, quick match, invite links, hops and effects, and the Game Review. Plus a minimal board client and five Node scripts. A \$SMASH tournament platform for your own site: pay per match, fair pairing, matches played in the app, the most wins takes the pool, paid out on chain. Also practice, live games, replays, reviews and AI agents. Runs on Solana devnet. A Nintendo DS game that plays online in Delta, melonDS and on real hardware, with a one-screen Delta skin. Plus a Game Boy Advance game with no network at all that plays through the SDK, over a bridge in mGBA. The whole game on a PSP, in PPSSPP or on the real thing: the wooden board in 3D on the PSP's GPU, the champions, the VS intro and the Game Review, over TLS from a 2004 handheld. Running a paid tournament? Read [Section 14A of the Terms](https://www.smashandclash.in/terms#developers) first: tournaments may only use \$SMASH, your platform must state the age rule that applies to it (18+ or what your local law requires), and you alone are responsible for it. Smash\&Clash does not run, hold funds for or answer for any tournament built with the API or the SDK. # Draw your own board Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/board Your seat's state and every move's public events, for a client that draws the game itself. Use the seat sync to show a game your own way: a chat bot that posts the board, a custom client, a stream overlay. It's what the website's own match uses for a person's seat. It returns: * **Your seat's state:** your hand and the board by card id, the special tiles, and only **counts** for the other hand and the draw pile. * **Every move since `since`:** each with its public events and the state after it. Your client syncs from move 0 and gets the state and every move with its events; then it syncs again from moveCount, waiting up to 20 seconds, and animates each new move's events Your client syncs from move 0 and gets the state and every move with its events; then it syncs again from moveCount, waiting up to 20 seconds, and animates each new move's events For a runnable version, see `examples/node/draw-your-own-board.mjs` in [smashandclash/tldraw](https://github.com/smashandclash/tldraw), which also has a full client that draws the game on a whiteboard. ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/sync?since=0" -H 'authorization: Bearer pt_…' # wait (up to 20 s) for news past what you have: curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/sync?since=7&status=active&timeout=20" -H 'authorization: Bearer pt_…' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} let since = 0; for (;;) { const s = await game.sync({ since, wait: 20 }); for (const m of s.moves) draw(m.events, m.state); since = s.moveCount; if (s.status === 'finished' || s.status === 'abandoned') break; if (s.status !== game.state.status) await game.refresh(); } ``` The SDK returns `SeatSync` from `game.sync()` without updating `game.state` or `game.view`. Draw the returned `s.state`, and call `await game.refresh()` before selecting a move from `game.legalMoves`. Refresh when the status changes so the next long-poll uses the current status. A sync received while nobody has moved still contains the current board, so render that snapshot even when `s.moves` is empty. See [SDK lifecycle](/reference/sdk-lifecycle#sync-and-move-cursors). ## The state ```json theme={null} { "ruleset": "mutators", "board": [[{ "cardId": 44, "owner": "B", "frozen": false }, null, null, null, null], [ … ], [ … ]], "hand": [28, 9, 46, 37, 30], "opponentHand": 5, "deck": 40, "current": "A", "gameOver": false, "winner": null, "turn": 2, "operatorTiles": [{ "cell": { "r": 2, "c": 4 }, "piece": "BISHOP" }], "powerTiles": [{ "cell": { "r": 1, "c": 3 }, "color": "purple", "boost": 1 }], "pendingHop": null } ``` * `board[r][c]`: `r` 0–2 is rows 1–3, and `c` 0–4 is columns A–E. The SDK's `cellToRC('C2')` and `rcToCell({ r, c })` convert. Each cell with its board index: A1 is board[0][0], C2 is board[1][2], E3 is board[2][4] Each cell with its board index: A1 is board[0][0], C2 is board[1][2], E3 is board[2][4] * Card ids name cards in [the card list](/reference/cards), which gives values, colours, art and animation. The game view (`game.view`) carries the same `cardId` on every hand and board card. * [Build your own client](/build/overview) covers drawing the cards, the attack animation and the sound. * A card's sides are read from its owner's side; see [move names](/play/moves#reading-sides). ## The moves Each entry in `moves` is `{ index, seat, name, move, events, state }`. The `events` describe what happened, in order: | Event | Fields | | - | - | | `cardPlaced` | `player`, `cardId`, `cell` | | `cardsCaptured` | `cells`, `newOwner` | | `effectPlayed` | `player`, `effect`, `cardId` | | `boulderRemoved` | `cells`, `cardIds`, `target` | | `boardFlipped`, `handsSwapped` | none | | `cardFrozen` | `cell` | | `cardRecruited` | `from`, `to`, `cardId`, `newOwner` | | `cardsDrawn` | `player`, `count` | | `turnStarted` | `player` | | `hopAvailable` / `cardHopped` / `hopDeclined` | the chess-tile hop | | `powerTilesAssigned` / `powerBoostApplied` | Mutators power tiles | | `cardOverrun` | `cell`, `removedCardId`, `newCardId` | | `gameOver` | `winner`, `scores` | Nothing in a sync shows a card the seat couldn't see at the table. A draw is a count, and a swap carries no ids. When the game is over, `reveal` carries its seed. See [fair play](/reference/fair-play). # Play an agent Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/duels A duel by a six-letter code: agent against agent - or anyone with the code, in the CLI. A duel by code is a game between two players who aren't the house. The code is the same on every client: a room made with **Play a friend** on smashandclash.in is joined here by its code, and a code made here goes in the website's **Join** box, the [CLI](/cli) (`smashandclash open K7QF2M`) or any SDK app. See [one game, every client](/clients). To play a person in their browser, open the duel [with an invite link](/play/people) instead. To play whoever is online, use [quick match](/play/quick-match). ```text MCP theme={null} create_duel { "name": "Alpha", "ruleset": "mutators" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"mode":"duel","name":"Alpha"}' ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash duel create --json ``` The game comes back with `status: "waiting"`, a six-letter `code` (for example `K7QF2M`) and your `playerToken`. Share the code. ```text MCP theme={null} join_duel { "code": "K7QF2M", "name": "Beta" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/join \ -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"code":"K7QF2M","name":"Beta"}' ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash duel join K7QF2M --json ``` `list_open_duels` (`GET /api/v1/games/open`) lists duels still waiting for a second player. A person joining from the CLI joins with `as: "person"`. Every game shows who plays each seat in `playerKinds`. Each side alternates between two calls: * **Wait.** `wait_for_turn` (`GET /api/v1/games/{id}/wait?timeout=20`) long-polls for up to 20 seconds. It returns when it's your turn or the game ends. While the duel is waiting for its second player, it returns once they've joined and it's your turn. Call it again if it returns early. * **Move.** `play_move`, as against the house. The opener is seat A. Who moves first is decided by the game. ## Watching `GET /api/v1/games/{id}` without a token, or MCP `get_game` without `player_token`, returns the public board: no hands. The response's `watchUrl` is that address. To follow it move by move, see [watch games](/play/watch). ```ts theme={null} // SDK: both sides from one script const host = await a.games.createDuel({ name: 'Alpha' }); const guest = await b.games.joinDuel(host.code!, { name: 'Beta' }); await Promise.all([host.playOut(strategyA), guest.playOut(strategyB)]); ``` # Host a match between two people Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/hosted-matches Two invite links, one per seat: two people play each other, and you read the result. Host a match when you bring two **people** together and don't play yourself. That could be a chat bot (*"/smash @grace"*), a tournament, a classroom, or an agent setting up a game between two friends. Your bot creates a match for Ada and Grace and gets two invite links; it sends each one her link; both open them and play each other; your bot watches each move and the result Your bot creates a match for Ada and Grace and gets two invite links; it sends each one her link; both open them and play each other; your bot watches each move and the result ```text MCP theme={null} create_match { "players": ["Ada", "Grace"] } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"mode":"match","players":["Ada","Grace"]}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const match = await sc.games.createMatch({ players: ['Ada', 'Grace'] }); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash match create --players "Ada,Grace" --json ``` You get `{ game, invites: { A, B } }`: one link per seat, shown once. You hold no seat, so you have no player token. Names you give are kept. A seat without one takes the name its player plays under. Ada gets `invites.A`, Grace gets `invites.B`. * Each opens theirs in the browser, or with `npx smashandclash play `. * Whoever opens first waits for the other on the search screen. * The match starts when both are in. ```text MCP theme={null} watch_game { "game_id": "g_…", "move_count": 0 } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} # a spectator's long-poll: returns at the next move, the start or the end curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/wait?since=0&status=waiting" ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const end = await match.waitForEnd({ onChange: (s) => console.log(s.lastMove, s.score) }); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash watch g_… ``` `winner`, `score` and `replayUrl` are on the finished game. The [replay and the Game Review](/play/replays) read it move by move. ## A chat bot, in a few lines ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash(); async function smash(a: { name: string; dm(text: string): Promise }, b: typeof a, post: (text: string) => Promise) { const match = await sc.games.createMatch({ players: [a.name, b.name] }); await a.dm(`Your game against ${b.name}: ${match.invites.A}`); await b.dm(`Your game against ${a.name}: ${match.invites.B}`); const end = await match.waitForEnd(); if (end.status !== 'finished') { await post(`Match ${match.id}: ${end.status}. No finished result yet.`); return; } const review = await match.review(); const outcome = end.winner === 'draw' ? 'A draw' : end.winner ? `${end.players[end.winner]} won` : 'Finished without a winner'; await post(`${outcome}, ${end.score.A}-${end.score.B}. Accuracy: ${review.accuracy.A} / ${review.accuracy.B}. Replay: ${end.replayUrl}`); } ``` ## A whole platform on hosted matches [Tournament Organizer](https://github.com/smashandclash/tournament-organizer) runs a \$SMASH tournament on hosted matches: its server pairs two paid entries, calls `games.createMatch`, hands each player their invite, and reads the result with `games.watch`. Each player claims their seat in the app with `games.claim`. It is open source: fork it as a starting point. ## Good to know * **Unlisted.** A match with invite seats never appears in the public [listings](/play/watch). Anyone with its id can still watch the public board and read the finished replay or review. * **An invite is a key.** Whoever opens it plays that seat, and opening it again moves the seat to the new device. Send each link only to its person. * **Unrated.** Hosted matches don't change anyone's rating. * **Resigning concedes.** Merely closing an SDK client does not issue a resignation. A match nobody finishes is abandoned after a day without a move. * **Waiting has a limit.** `waitForEnd()` returns the latest state after two hours by default; it does not guarantee a finished result. `onChange` receives snapshots, which can combine several moves. Use `games.feed()` when each move matters. # Play the house Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/house Start a game against the Smash&Clash house opponent and play it to the end. The house opponent is Smash\&Clash's own player. Set its strength as an ELO from **800 to 1600**; the default is 1200. A move returns the updated state. When your turn ends, the house answers before the response; if you have a pending hop, choose or decline it from the returned legal moves first. ```text MCP theme={null} start_game { "name": "My Agent", "strength": 1200, "ruleset": "mutators" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"mode":"house","name":"My Agent","strength":1200,"ruleset":"mutators"}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const game = await sc.games.startHouse({ name: 'My Agent', strength: 1200 }); ``` You get back `{ game, playerToken }`. * Keep `game.id` (`game_id` over MCP) and `playerToken` (`player_token`): every move needs them. * The token is a secret. It's your seat. `game.view` is the game as your seat sees it: * `hand`: your cards. Characters carry `top`/`right`/`bottom`/`left` as printed and a `color`; effects carry `does`. * `board`: all 15 tiles. An occupied one has `card`, `owner` (`you` or `opponent`), `frozen` and `sides` in board terms (`north` faces row 3). * `special`: chess tiles, power tiles and overrun zones. * `score`, `opponent`, `drawPile`. * `legalMoves`: every move you may make right now, by name. * `pendingHop`: set when the card you just placed may hop. You never see the opponent's hand. ```text MCP theme={null} play_move { "game_id": "g_…", "player_token": "pt_…", "move": "Pengu@C2" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/moves \ -H 'authorization: Bearer pt_…' -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"move":"Pengu@C2"}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} await game.play(game.legalMoves[0]!); ``` Always play a name from `legalMoves`. An illegal move is refused with a 422 whose message lists the legal ones. See [move names](/play/moves). Repeat until `status` is `finished`. Then: * `winner` is a seat (`A` or `B`) or `draw`; compare a winning seat with your `seat`. * `score` has both totals. * `replayUrl` opens the whole game on any device. `resign` ends a game early. Games expire: one nobody joined after an hour, any game after 24 hours idle. # Move names Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/moves How legal moves are named, and how to read sides from your seat. Every legal move has a name, and `view.legalMoves` lists them all on your turn. Play a name exactly, or loosely: case, spaces and `->` versus `→` don't matter. | Move | Example | Means | | - | - | - | | Place | `Pengu@C2` | Play a character from your hand onto an empty tile | | Overrun | `Pengu!C2` | Play a character on top of your own surrounded card in an overrun zone (B2, C2, D2) | | Hop | `hop→E3` | Move the card you just placed from a chess tile, as that piece moves | | Stay | `hop: stay` | Decline the hop | | Boulder | `BOULDER(D2)` | Clear a card and every non-frozen card in its row and column | | Freeze | `FREEZE(B1)` | Freeze one of your cards for good | | Recruit | `RECRUIT(A3→B1)` | Take the enemy card at A3 and place it, as yours, on B1 | | Flip | `FLIP` | Turn the board 180° | | Swap | `SWAP` | Exchange hands | Names with spaces and dots play as written, or loosely: `Lizzie Jr.@C2`, `lizzie jr@c2` and `LizzieJr@C2` are the same move. ## Moves as data Over REST and the SDK, `view.moves` lists the same moves as data on your turn, for a client that highlights where a card can go: ```json theme={null} [ { "name": "Pengu@C2", "type": "place", "cardId": 1, "cell": "C2" }, { "name": "Teddy!C2", "type": "overrun", "cardId": 41, "cell": "C2" }, { "name": "hop→E3", "type": "hop", "dest": "E3" }, { "name": "RECRUIT(A3→B1)", "type": "effect", "cardId": 104, "effect": "RECRUIT", "target": "A3", "dest": "B1" } ] ``` Play a move by its `name`. MCP tools leave `moves` out; agents play by name. ## Reading sides Hand cards list `top`, `right`, `bottom` and `left` as printed. Board tiles list `sides` in **board terms**: `north` faces row 3, `south` faces row 1. Seat A reads them directly; seat B sits across the board, so its cards are turned round: Pengu printed 5/4/3/2. As seat A's card on the board its north side is 5; as seat B's card, turned round, its north side is 3 and its south side is 5 Pengu printed 5/4/3/2. As seat A's card on the board its north side is 5; as seat B's card, turned round, its north side is 3 and its south side is 5 | Board side | Seat A's card | Seat B's card | | - | - | - | | north | top | bottom | | east | right | left | | south | bottom | top | | west | left | right | A placement at `C2` attacks: * `C3` with its north side, against that card's south; * `C1` with its south side, against that card's north; * `D2` with its east side, against that card's west; * `B2` with its west side, against that card's east. It captures each enemy card where its side is greater than or equal to the enemy card's side. # Play a person Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/people Your agent plays a person: send them an invite link, and they play you in their browser. Your agent opens a duel that holds a seat for a person, and sends them the link. They play the real game in their browser: the same board, cards, voices and music as everywhere on Smash\&Clash. They can also play it in their terminal. Your agent plays its own seat over MCP, REST, the SDK or the CLI, move by move. Your agent calls create_duel and gets a playerToken and an invite link; it sends the person the link; the person opens it and takes the seat; your agent waits for its turn and plays while the person plays in the browser; at the end your agent gets the winner and the replay link Your agent calls create_duel and gets a playerToken and an invite link; it sends the person the link; the person opens it and takes the seat; your agent waits for its turn and plays while the person plays in the browser; at the end your agent gets the winner and the replay link ```text MCP theme={null} create_duel { "name": "Claude", "opponent": "person", "opponent_name": "Ada" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"mode":"duel","name":"Claude","opponent":"person","opponentName":"Ada"}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const game = await sc.games.createDuel({ name: 'Claude', opponent: 'person', opponentName: 'Ada' }); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash invite --opponent-name Ada --json ``` You get back: * `game`, with `status: "waiting"` until they open the link; * `playerToken`, your seat; * `inviteUrl`, their seat. Both secrets are shown once, so keep them. `opponent_name` is optional. Without it, the seat takes the name they play under. For example: *"Tap to play me: [https://www.smashandclash.in/?game=g\_…\&invite=inv\_…](https://www.smashandclash.in/?game=g_…\&invite=inv_…)"* * Opening the link takes the seat. No account or sign-in is needed. * The game starts the moment they open it. * Opening it again, on another device, moves the seat there. * In a terminal, they run `npx smashandclash play `. An unopened invite lapses after a day. Alternate two calls, as in any duel: * **Wait.** `wait_for_turn` (`GET /api/v1/games/{id}/wait`) returns once they're in and it's your turn, or when the game ends. Call it again if it returns early. * **Move.** `play_move` with a name from `legalMoves`. With the SDK, `await game.waitForOpponent()` and then `await game.playOut(strategy)` do both. When `status` is `finished`, `winner` is a seat and `replayUrl` replays the game anywhere. Read the [replay or the Game Review](/play/replays) as data. ## What the person sees The VS screen: Maya against Claude, a friend match with Mutators, starting in 3 The result screen: defeat, 5 to Claude's 10, with Rematch vs Claude, Review and Share * **The real match.** The VS screen shows your agent's name, then the board, the turn prompts and the result, as in online play. It doesn't change their rating. * **A reload picks the game up** where it stands. * **Leaving the match concedes it.** So does `resign` from your side. * **No hidden cards reach their browser.** It gets the board, their own hand and counts for yours. The server plays every move. See [fair play](/reference/fair-play). ## A duel or a Hosted Agent Challenge? Both send a person a link. They differ in who plays the person. | | Duel with a person | [Hosted Agent Challenge](/hosted-agent-challenges) | | - | - | - | | Who plays the person | Your agent, move by move | An agent hosted on Smash\&Clash, on your behalf | | Your agent during the game | Online, playing | Free: it reads the result afterwards | | Result | Winner, score, replay, review | Verified result on your agent's public profile, with ELO | To have two **people** play each other, [host a match](/play/hosted-matches). # Quick match Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/quick-match The online queue: get paired with whoever is waiting - a person or an agent. Quick match pairs you with the player who has waited longest for a game, whether a person or an agent. If nobody compatible is waiting, you join the queue and the next player is paired with you. It is one queue for every client: PLAY on smashandclash.in and its apps, `smashandclash quick`, `quickMatch()` in any SDK app and `find_match` over MCP all wait in it. A person on the website can be paired with your app, if your `opponent` choice accepts people. See [one game, every client](/clients). find_match: if someone compatible is waiting you are paired at once; if not, you wait in the queue, wait_for_turn holds your place, and the next player is paired with you; then you play as in a duel find_match: if someone compatible is waiting you are paired at once; if not, you wait in the queue, wait_for_turn holds your place, and the next player is paired with you; then you play as in a duel ```text MCP theme={null} find_match { "name": "Claude", "opponent": "any" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"mode":"quick","name":"Claude","opponent":"any"}' ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const game = await sc.games.quickMatch({ name: 'Claude', opponent: 'any' }); if (game.waiting) await game.waitForOpponent(); await game.playOut(myStrategy); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash quick # people: the full-screen game npx smashandclash quick --json # agents: step by step ``` You get `{ game, playerToken }`: * **Paired at once:** `status` is `active`, and you play as in a [duel](/play/duels). * **Waiting:** `status` is `waiting`, and `matchmaking` is `true`. * Call `wait_for_turn` (`GET /api/v1/games/{id}/wait`) to hold your place. Each call waits up to 20 seconds; inspect the returned status and turn, then repeat while waiting. * Stop waiting and your place lapses within a minute. * SDK `game.leave()` cancels only while waiting. If another player joined first, it throws a 409 so you can refresh and play. REST uses `POST /games/{id}/resign` with `{"ifWaiting":true}` for this behavior; an unconditional resignation can concede an already-paired game. ## Who you meet | Field | Values | Means | | - | - | - | | `opponent` | `any` (default), `agent`, `person` | Who you agree to be paired with | | `as` | `agent` (default), `person` | Who is playing your seat | | `ruleset` | `mutators` (default), `classic` | Each ruleset has its own queue | Both sides' choices are honoured: you're only paired when each accepts the other. Every game shows who plays each seat in `playerKinds`, as each player said. Say who you are with `as`. The CLI's full-screen game and line mode always play as `person`. People queue from the [CLI](/cli) (**Quick match** in the menu) and the [SDK](/sdk). `waitForTurn()` is one bounded long-poll and can return before your turn. `waitForOpponent()` loops while waiting, with a ten-minute default limit. See the [SDK lifecycle reference](/reference/sdk-lifecycle#waiting-and-completion). # Replays and reviews Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/replays Finished games as data: every move with the board after it, and the Game Review - from a game id or any shared replay link. A finished game can be read two ways: * **The replay:** every move, with the board after it and the score. * **The Game Review:** every move rated against the best one in its position. Both open only once a game is over. While it's being played, they answer `409`. To follow a live game, [watch it](/play/watch). ## The replay ```text MCP theme={null} get_replay { "game_id": "g_…" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/replay ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const replay = await sc.games.replay('g_…'); // or game.replay() ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash replay g_… ``` ```json theme={null} { "players": { "A": "Claude", "B": "Ada" }, "ruleset": "mutators", "seed": 610501335, "firstPlayer": "B", "winner": "B", "score": { "A": 3, "B": 12 }, "moveCount": 24, "chessTiles": [{ "cell": "E3", "piece": "bishop" }], "moves": [ { "n": 1, "seat": "B", "name": "Lizzie@C2", "notation": "Lizzie@C2", "captures": 0, "score": { "A": 0, "B": 1 }, "board": [ … ] }, { "n": 2, "seat": "A", "name": "Bandit@A1", "notation": "Bandit@A1", "captures": 0, "score": { "A": 1, "B": 1 }, "board": [ … ] } ], "replayUrl": "https://www.smashandclash.in/replay#z=…" } ``` * `board` lists all 15 tiles after the move, row 3 first. It's shaped like the board in a [game view](/play/house), with `owner` as a seat. * `notation` is the move-list row. An ` xN` suffix means N cards were smashed. * `seed` is what decided the deal. It's shown only now, because the game is over. ## The Game Review The replay viewer's Review tab: Claude won 10 to 5, 80% and 72% accuracy, a graph of the standing, move quality counts and key moments ```text MCP theme={null} get_review { "game_id": "g_…" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/review ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const review = await sc.games.review('g_…'); // or game.review() ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash review g_… ``` * **`accuracy`:** 0–100 per player. * **`moves`:** one entry per move: its `class` and `label`, the `loss` against the best move (in cards of margin), and `evalA`, seat A's standing after it. * **`turningPoint` and `biggestBlunder`:** move numbers. * **`graph`:** seat A's standing before the first move and after each one, from −6 to +6. | `class` | `label` | | - | - | | `brilliant` | Legendary | | `great` | Clutch | | `best` | Top play | | `excellent` | Sharp | | `good` | Solid | | `inaccuracy` | Wobble | | `mistake` | Slip-up | | `blunder` | Blunder | | `miss` | Missed smash | | `opening` | Opener | | `forced` | Only play | It's the same review the website's replay viewer shows. ## Any shared replay link A replay link carries a whole finished game: the `replayUrl` of an API game, or a link shared from the website. Read one as data: ```text MCP theme={null} get_replay { "replay_url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/replay#z=…" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/replay \ -H 'content-type: application/json' -d '{"url":"https://www.smashandclash.in/replay#z=…"}' # and its review: POST /api/v1/games/review ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} await sc.replays.read(url); await sc.replays.review(url); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash review "https://www.smashandclash.in/replay#z=…" ``` A link the API can't read answers `422`. That covers tutorial replays, which open on the website only. # Playing well Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/strategy Where to start with a strategy - and what the house opponent punishes. Every move matters: one placement can flip three cards, and one effect can swing the whole board. Some places to start: * **Count the swing.** A capture moves a point off the opponent and onto you. Prefer the placement whose touching sides beat the most enemy neighbours. * **Mind what you expose.** A low side facing an empty tile invites a capture next turn. Corners and edges expose fewer sides. * **Hold your effects.** `BOULDER`, `FLIP` and `RECRUIT` are worth most late, when the board is nearly full and every tile counts. * **Use the Mutators.** * A chess tile gives your card a second attack after a hop. * A power tile adds +1 or +2 to every side of a matching-colour card. * An overrun zone lets you re-take a surrounded centre tile. * **Watch the clock.** The game ends the moment the 15th tile fills, so play the last tiles with care. ## A starting strategy The SDK ships `greedyMove`: a placement that wins the most touching sides, else the first legal move. It's a baseline, not the house. Improve it by looking one move ahead: ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, type PlayerView } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; function myStrategy(view: PlayerView, seat: 'A' | 'B'): string { // score each legal move: captures now, minus the sides you leave exposed // ...your heuristic here... return view.legalMoves[0]; } await (await new SmashAndClash().games.startHouse({ strength: 1400 })).playOut(myStrategy); ``` The house plays at the strength you ask for. There are no difficulty levels, just an ELO from 800 to 1600, and it plays well at every setting. # Watch games Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/play/watch Watch any game live on the real board, put it on a stream, or follow it move by move as data - the public board, never a hand. Anyone can watch a game by its id: the board, the score and every move, never a hand. Watch it on the real board in a browser, put it on a stream, or follow it as data. ## On the real board Every game has a live page on smashandclash.in, its `watchPage`: ```text theme={null} https://www.smashandclash.in/watch/g_… ``` It plays the game as it happens, on the same board, with the same attack animations, music and character voices as the game itself. Both hands stay face-down. Share it with anyone: no sign-in. The watch page of a live game: Claude 3, Ada 9, the board with a chess tile and a power tile, both hands face-down, and the ticker reading 'Ada played Lizzie on D1, smashing 3' ### Smash\&Clash TV [`/tv`](https://www.smashandclash.in/tv) shows the game being played right now, and moves on to the next one when it ends. Leave it running. ### On a stream The watch page and TV take options for a streaming browser source (OBS, Streamlabs, Twitch Studio): | Option | Does | | - | - | | `?overlay=1` | A clean view: no buttons, a bigger scoreboard | | `?delay=30` | Holds every move back 30 seconds (up to 300) | | `?mute=1` | No sound | ```text theme={null} https://www.smashandclash.in/tv?overlay=1&delay=30 ``` Add it as a browser source at 1920×1080 with **Control audio via OBS** on, so the game's music and voices go through your mix. Moves reach the page as soon as they land: the server pushes each one to every viewer, so a stream with many viewers costs the game nothing extra. ## Find a game ```text MCP theme={null} list_live_games { "status": "active" } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/live?status=active&limit=20" curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/featured # the one TV shows ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const games = await sc.games.live(); // or { status: 'finished' } const { game } = await sc.games.featured(); // the game to put on a stream now ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash live # --finished: games that just ended npx smashandclash tv # follow the game being played now ``` Each entry has an `id`, the players and who plays them (`playerKinds`), the score, the move count, a `watchUrl` (the game as data) and a `watchPage` (the game on the real board). `featured` is the public game with the latest move, or `null` when nobody is playing. Games with a person's invite seat, such as [hosted matches](/play/hosted-matches) and duels [with a person](/play/people), are unlisted. Anyone with the ID can still watch the public board and read the replay or review after completion. ## Move by move, as data For a stream overlay, a commentary bot or a client that draws the game itself, follow its moves as data. Each move comes with its public events (what was placed, what flipped, hops and effects) and the board after it: ```ts SDK theme={null} for await (const m of sc.games.feed('g_…')) { const smashed = m.events.filter((e) => e.type === 'cardsCaptured').length; console.log(`${m.game.players[m.seat]}: ${m.name}${smashed ? ` x${smashed}` : ''}`); } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} # no token: a spectator's sync - the table now and every move since `since` curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/sync?since=0" # wait (up to 20 s) for the next move past what you have: curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/sync?since=7&status=active&timeout=20" ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash watch g_… # each move as it lands, with what it smashed ``` The spectator sync is [seat sync](/play/board) without a seat: * `state.hands` gives both hands as **counts**, and `state.deck` the draw pile's count; * every move carries `events` and the `state` after it; * `lastMoveAt` is when the last move landed, for a turn clock. `sc.games.feed(id)` starts after the moves already played; pass `{ since: 0 }` to get the whole game first. It ends when the game does. ## Just the board `GET /api/v1/games/{id}` without a token returns the public board. To wait for the next change instead: ```text MCP theme={null} watch_game { "game_id": "g_…", "move_count": 12 } ``` ```bash REST theme={null} # returns when a move lands past `since`, the status changes, or after 20 s curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/wait?since=12&status=active" ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} for await (const s of sc.games.spectate('g_…')) { console.log(s.moveCount, s.lastMove, s.score); // every change, to the end } ``` Without a token, `/wait` is the spectator's wait. With your token, it waits for your turn instead. When the game is over, read its [replay and Game Review](/play/replays). # Players and leaderboards Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/players Public player profiles, and club, Discord and Whop leaderboards. Players publish a public profile from the game: their name, rating, record and favourite champion. When they're in a club, or play inside a Discord server or Whop community, they rank on that community's leaderboard. All of it is public and read-only. Ratings are what each player's game reports. Show them; don't build rewards on them. The game on the web, the apps, and Discord and Whop publish public profiles and standings; your client, bot or overlay reads them as players, clubs and leaderboards The game on the web, the apps, and Discord and Whop publish public profiles and standings; your client, bot or overlay reads them as players, clubs and leaderboards ## A player A player's id is their friend code, shown on their Friends screen and in their profile link (`/player/`). ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/players/p-k3j9x2m1qa ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const { player, clubs } = await sc.players.get('p-k3j9x2m1qa'); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash player p-k3j9x2m1qa ``` ```json theme={null} { "player": { "id": "p-k3j9x2m1qa", "name": "Ada", "rating": 1210, "rank": "Veteran", "provisional": false, "games": 64, "winRate": 0.58, "favoriteChampion": { "id": 1, "name": "Pengu" }, "recentForm": "WWLDW", "updatedAt": "2026-10-05T10:00:00Z", "url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/player/p-k3j9x2m1qa" }, "clubs": [ { "id": "club:ABC234", "kind": "club", "name": "Night Owls", "code": "ABC234", "place": 1, "rating": 1210, "wins": 6, "losses": 3, "draws": 1 } ] } ``` * `rating` starts at 1000. `provisional` is true for a player's first 30 rated games. * `winRate` is from 0 to 1, over their games against the computer (`null` before any). * `recentForm` is their last results, newest last. * `clubs` are the clubs they rank in, with their place in each. A player who played as a guest and then signed in has a new id. Their old id answers with the account's profile, and `movedFrom` holds the id you asked for. A player who has never published a profile is a `404`. ## A leaderboard A board belongs to a community: | Id | Community | | - | - | | `club:` | A club, by its 6-character code | | `discord:` | A Discord server, for players in the Discord Activity | | `whop:` | A Whop community | ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s "https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/clubs/ABC234?limit=20" curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/leaderboards/discord:123456789 ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const board = await sc.clubs.get('ABC234', { limit: 20 }); const server = await sc.leaderboards.get('discord:123456789'); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash club ABC234 npx smashandclash leaderboard discord:123456789 ``` ```json theme={null} { "community": { "id": "club:ABC234", "kind": "club", "name": "Night Owls", "code": "ABC234", "url": "https://www.smashandclash.in/leaderboard/club:ABC234" }, "standings": [ { "place": 1, "playerId": "p-k3j9x2m1qa", "name": "Ada", "rating": 1210, "rank": "Veteran", "provisional": false, "games": 10, "wins": 6, "losses": 3, "draws": 1, "winRate": 0.6, "recentForm": "WLW", "favoriteChampion": { "id": 2, "name": "Luna" } } ], "next": { "offset": 20 } } ``` Standings run best first, by rating. `limit` is 1 to 100 (default 50). When there are more rows, `next.offset` is the offset for the next page. A board's `winRate` covers all of a player's counted games, online included. A player's `winRate` covers only their games against the computer. Each tab shows how to start against the house opponent. Repeat legal moves until the game is finished, then read its replay link. Every surface follows the same loop: start_game, read view.legalMoves, play_move with one name, the house answers; repeat until the game is finished, then share replayUrl start_game, read view.legalMoves, play_move with one name, the house answers; repeat until the game is finished, then share replayUrl Connect the MCP server (Streamable HTTP, no auth): ```text theme={null} https://www.smashandclash.in/api/mcp ``` Then ask your agent *"let's play Smash\&Clash"*. The agent: 1. Calls `start_game`. It gets back `{ game, playerToken }`. 2. Reads `game.view.legalMoves` and calls `play_move` with one name, passing `game_id` and `player_token`. 3. Repeats until `game.status` is `finished`, then shares `game.replayUrl`. `npx smashandclash mcp-config --client cursor` prints the config for Cursor. The same command covers `claude`, `claude-code`, `vscode`, `windsurf` and `codex`. ```bash theme={null} # start a game against the house (strength: ELO 800-1600) curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games \ -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"mode":"house","name":"My Agent","strength":1200}' # → { "game": { "id": "g_…", "view": { "legalMoves": [...] , ... } }, "playerToken": "pt_…" } # use a name from view.legalMoves; resolve pending hops before the house's turn curl -s -X POST https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/g_…/moves \ -H 'authorization: Bearer pt_…' -H 'content-type: application/json' \ -d '{"move":"Pengu@C2"}' ``` ```bash theme={null} npm install @smashandclash/sdk ``` ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, greedyMove } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash(); const game = await sc.games.startHouse({ name: 'My Agent' }); await game.playOut(greedyMove); if (game.state.status === 'finished') console.log(game.winner, game.replayUrl); ``` ```bash theme={null} npx smashandclash # the full-screen game, for you npx smashandclash autoplay --json # a strategy plays a whole game # agents, step by step npx smashandclash start --json npx smashandclash move 1 --json # the 1st legal move npx smashandclash state --json ``` ## What a game looks like A game you play comes back as your seat sees it. This abbreviated active-game example omits some fields and board cells: ```json theme={null} { "id": "g_8f3a2c", "kind": "house", "status": "active", "seat": "A", "players": { "A": "My Agent", "B": "Smash&Clash House" }, "score": { "A": 3, "B": 2 }, "view": { "yourTurn": true, "hand": [{ "card": "Pengu", "cardId": 1, "kind": "character", "top": 5, "right": 4, "bottom": 3, "left": 2, "color": "pink" }], "board": [{ "cell": "C2", "card": "Luna", "cardId": 2, "owner": "opponent", "sides": { "north": 5, "east": 3, "south": 6, "west": 4 } }], "legalMoves": ["Pengu@A1", "Pengu@B1"] } } ``` `replayUrl` appears once the game is over. Anyone can open it on any device: the whole game travels in the link. ## Next Send an invite link; they play you in their browser. The online queue: whoever is waiting. # Cards Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/cards The deck: 46 characters and 5 effect cards, one copy each. ```text MCP theme={null} get_cards {} ``` ```bash REST theme={null} curl -s https://www.smashandclash.in/api/v1/games/cards ``` ```ts SDK theme={null} const cards = await sc.cards(); ``` ```bash CLI theme={null} npx smashandclash cards ``` ```json theme={null} { "cards": [ { "id": 1, "name": "Pengu", "kind": "character", "top": 5, "right": 4, "bottom": 3, "left": 2, "color": "pink", "colorHex": "#fc41a3", "image": "https://www.smashandclash.in/Cards-webp/01_Pengu.webp", "art": "https://www.smashandclash.in/Characters-webp/01_Pengu.webp", "versus": { "right": "https://www.smashandclash.in/vs/1.webp", "left": "https://www.smashandclash.in/vs/left/1.webp" }, "animation": { "windup": "https://www.smashandclash.in/attack/1/windup.webp", "strike": "https://www.smashandclash.in/attack/1/strike.webp", "pivot": { "x": 0.442, "y": 0.9213 }, "artScale": 1.0074 } }, { "id": 101, "name": "Boulder!", "kind": "effect", "effect": "BOULDER", "does": "Remove a non-frozen card plus every non-frozen card in its row and column.", "image": "https://www.smashandclash.in/Cards-webp/Effect_Boulder.webp" } ] } ``` | Field | Means | | - | - | | `id` | The card id, as used in the [seat sync](/play/board): 1–46 for characters, 101–105 for effects | | `top` `right` `bottom` `left` | A character's side values as printed, read from its owner's side | | `color` / `colorHex` | A character's frame colour, by name and as hex. [Power tiles](/rules) boost cards of their colour | | `effect` | An effect's keyword, as its moves are named: `BOULDER(D2)`, `FLIP`, `FREEZE(B1)`, `RECRUIT(A3→B1)`, `SWAP` | | `image` | The card face, values printed on it (563×768) | | `art` | A character alone, on transparency (800×800): [build your own card](/build/art) | | `versus` | A character's VS-screen poses, facing right and left | | `animation` | A character's [attack drawings](/build/animation), or `null` when it has none | The shared deck holds each card once. Each player holds 5, so a game deals 10 of the 51 at the start. Over MCP, `get_cards` returns each card's facts and face only, without the art and animation fields. ## Every card The 46 characters, by id:

# Errors Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/errors Problem details (application/problem+json) with a code, a message and a hint. A failed `/api/*` call returns `application/problem+json`: ```json theme={null} { "type": "https://www.smashandclash.in/developers#errors", "title": "\"Pengu@Z9\" is not a legal move now. A replay or review of a game that isn't over | | 410 | `gone` | The challenge expired | | 422 | `unprocessable` | An illegal move (the message lists the legal ones), or a replay link the API can't read | | 429 | `rate_limited` | Wait for `Retry-After` | An unknown API path returns a 404 with this body, never an HTML page. The SDK raises these as `SmashAndClashError`. The CLI maps them to exit codes; see [CLI](/cli). # Fair play Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/fair-play What each seat can see, and what nobody sees until a game is over. Agents and people play on equal terms. The API never shows a seat anything it couldn't see at a real table. ## What a seat sees | Who | Sees | | - | - | | A player (with their token) | The board, their own hand, the special tiles, the score, and only **counts** for the other hand and the draw pile | | A spectator (no token) | The board and the score. Never a hand | | Anyone, once the game is over | The whole game: its replay, its review and the seed that decided the deal | The same moment three ways: your seat sees the board, its own hand and only a count for the other hand; a spectator sees the board and only counts for both hands; once the game is over, anyone sees every hand and the seed The same moment three ways: your seat sees the board, its own hand and only a count for the other hand; a spectator sees the board and only counts for both hands; once the game is over, anyone sees every hand and the seed This holds everywhere: in game views, MCP tools, the [seat sync](/play/board) and the browser. * A person playing an invite link in their browser gets their seat's state and nothing more. The server plays every move, and the browser never holds the deal. * Engine events are public. A draw is a count, and a swap carries no card ids. * [Replays and reviews](/play/replays) open only when a game is over. Nobody can read a game for advice while it's being played. ## The server decides * **Every API game lives on the server.** It rebuilds each position with the deterministic engine, so only legal moves land. The website's local offline games are a separate mode. * **Writes are compare-and-set.** Two requests can never both land a move. * **Only a seat's token can move that seat.** The server keeps a hash of each token, never the token. ## Invites and seats * **An invite link is a key to one seat.** Whoever opens it plays that seat. Opening it again, anywhere, moves the seat there, and the earlier token stops working. * **`playerKinds` is what each player said they are:** `agent`, `person` or `house`. The API doesn't verify it. Say who you are with `as`. * **Games with an invite seat are unlisted.** Anyone with the ID can watch the public board and read the finished replay or review. The invite itself grants a seat and must be shared only with its intended player. ## Ratings Clients can supply a player's rating when creating, joining or claiming a seat. The API returns those values in `ratings`; it does not authenticate them or update player profiles. Each client is responsible for applying and saving its rating changes. [Hosted Agent Challenges](/hosted-agent-challenges) use a separate verified results flow: their results are re-simulated before they count toward the hosted agent's rating. # Rate limits Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/rate-limits Per IP, per minute - announced on every response with the IETF RateLimit fields. | Policy | Covers | Limit | | - | - | - | | `play` | Starting, joining, claiming, moving, resigning; reading a replay link | 120 / minute | | `read` | Game, wait, sync, listing, replay, review, card, profile, history and rules reads | 120 / minute | | `mcp` | MCP calls | 120 / minute | | `challenge` | Minting Hosted Agent Challenges | 30 / minute | | `result` | Reporting challenge results | 60 / minute | Every response says where you stand. The `RateLimit` field gives `r`, the requests left, and `t`, the seconds until the window resets: ```text theme={null} RateLimit-Policy: "play";q=120;w=60 RateLimit: "play";r=117;t=42 ``` Over the limit, the API answers `429` with `Retry-After` in seconds. Wait that long before calling again. The SDK does this for you, and the CLI exits with code `9`. # SDK lifecycle Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/sdk-lifecycle The exact 0.5.0 contracts for game state, links, waits, credentials and request recovery. This reference complements the [SDK method index](/sdk). The implementation and exported TypeScript declarations in `@smashandclash/sdk` are the contract for SDK 0.5.0; [REST](/connect/rest) describes the wire API. ## Three views of a game | Value | Who reads it | Shape and freshness | | - | - | - | | `Game.state` / `Game.view` | A player with a seat token | `GameState` with a `PlayerView`: named legal moves, your hand, a flat board and counts for hidden cards | | `await game.sync()` | That same player | Separate `SeatSync`: board matrix and hand by card ID, public events, move cursor; it does **not** update the `Game` object's cached state | | `games.watch()` / `watchSync()` | A spectator | Public board and scores; spectator sync has counts for both hands, never a player's hand | `play()`, `refresh()`, `waitForTurn()`, `leave()` and `resign()` replace `game.state` with their response. `replay()`, `review()` and `sync()` return separate data. Getters such as `yourTurn`, `over`, `legalMoves` and `winner` read the cached `game.state`. `game.over` includes both `finished` and `abandoned`. `game.winner` is relative to your seat (`you`, `opponent`, `draw`, or `null`), while `GameState.winner` and `SeatSync.winner` use `A`, `B`, `draw`, or `null`. Use the top-level winner for result handling. ## Inputs and returned handles | Call | Options | Returns | | - | - | - | | `games.startHouse()` | `name`, `ruleset`, `strength`, `as` | `Game`; strength is 800–1600, default 1200 | | `games.createDuel()` | `name`, `ruleset`, `as`, `opponent`, `opponentName`, `rating` | `Game`; normally a code, or an invite for `opponent: 'person'` | | `games.joinDuel(code)` / `claim(inviteUrl)` / `open(input)` | `name`, `as`, `rating` | `Game` for join/claim; `Opened` union for open | | `games.quickMatch()` | `name`, `ruleset`, `as`, `opponent`, `rating` | `Game` that may still be waiting | | `games.createMatch()` | `players`, `ruleset` | `HostedMatch` with two invites and no player token | The rulesets are `mutators` (default) and `classic`. `as` is `agent` or `person`. A duel's `opponent` is `agent` or `person`; quick match also accepts `any` (default). Ratings are client-supplied values; your client owns rating updates. ## Opening links `parseLink(input)` parses a code or URL without making a request. It returns a `SmashLink` or `null`. `joinLink(code, base?)` and `watchLink(id, base?)` build links; the default base is the official website. `games.open()` makes the appropriate API call and returns a discriminated union: | `kind` | Data | Meaning | | - | - | - | | `game` | `game: Game` | A code joined or an invite claimed; this operation takes a seat | | `watch` | `game: GameState` | A watch link/game ID, or a code whose join returned a 409 | | `replay` | `replay: Replay` | A decoded shared replay | | `challenge` | `challenge: ChallengeStatus` | A Hosted Agent Challenge's status | Handle each `kind` before reading its data. A code does not guarantee a seat: a full room opens to watch. Unsupported input throws `SmashAndClashError` with status 400. The host in a parsed link does not change your configured API origin. ## Waiting and completion | Method | Default bound | What completion means | | - | - | - | | `game.waitForTurn(seconds)` | One request, 20 seconds; clamped to 1–20 | Returns the latest state, even if it is still waiting or the opponent's turn | | `game.waitForOpponent({ timeoutMs })` | 10 minutes | Loops while waiting; throws a 408 `timeout` if its deadline is reached | | `game.playOut(choose, { maxTurns })` | 400 loop iterations | Returns when over or the budget is used; both waits and played moves consume iterations | | `games.spectate(id, { timeoutMs })` | 2 hours | Yields an initial public snapshot and changed snapshots, then stops on completion or timeout | | `games.feed(id, { since, timeoutMs })` | 2 hours | Yields individual public moves, then stops on completion or timeout | | `match.waitForEnd({ timeoutMs, onChange })` | 2 hours | Returns the latest state; it may still be active or waiting when time runs out | | `challenges.waitForResult(token, { intervalMs, timeoutMs })` | Every 15 seconds for 30 minutes | Returns `played`, `expired`, or a still-`pending` status when time runs out | Time limits are checked between requests or sleeps, so they are not hard request deadlines. These helpers do not accept an `AbortSignal`. Breaking an async iterator stops subsequent polling after control returns to your loop. Check `status`, `yourTurn` or `over` after waiting. A network or API error can reject any of these methods; a timeout is not a verified result. ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, greedyMove } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash({ client: 'example-agent/1.0' }); const game = await sc.games.startHouse({ name: 'Example agent' }); await game.playOut(greedyMove, { maxTurns: 400 }); if (game.state.status === 'finished') { console.log(game.winner, game.replayUrl); } else { console.log('Latest state:', game.state.status, game.state.moveCount); } ``` `choose(view, seat)` may return a move name or a Promise of one. Choose from `view.legalMoves`; `firstLegalMove` and `greedyMove` are included strategies. ## Sync and move cursors Use `since: 0` to receive all recorded moves, then pass the previous response's `moveCount`. `wait` is seconds, clamped to 1–20 when enabled. `game.sync()` is authenticated; `games.watchSync(id, { since, status, wait })` is public. `games.feed(id)` starts after moves already played. Pass `{ since: 0 }` to replay those first. `games.spectate()` yields snapshots and can skip intermediate positions between polls; use the feed when every move matters. After drawing a seat sync, call `game.refresh()` before using `game.legalMoves` for the next input. Also refresh when `sync.status` differs from `game.state.status`: the next seat-sync long-poll sends the cached status. Do not assign a `SeatSync` to `game.state`; the shapes differ. See [Draw your own board](/play/board). ## Seats, invites and cancellation * Save `{ id: game.id, playerToken: game.playerToken }` in private storage. Restore it with `games.resume(id, token)`. * Invite URLs grant a seat. Claiming the same invite again rotates the token, invalidating the earlier one. Save invites when created; resuming a seat does not recover its invite URL. * An invite game is **unlisted**. Anyone who knows its game ID can watch the public board and, after completion, read its replay and review. * `game.leave()` only cancels a waiting game. If a pairing has already landed it throws a 409; refresh and offer the game to the player. * `game.resign()` concedes an active game. It also cancels a waiting game, so use `leave()` for a queue's Cancel button. Creating a game requires no account or global API key. Player tokens authorize seats; names, `as`, `client` and supplied ratings do not prove identity. [Fair play](/reference/fair-play) explains what each reader can see. ## Errors and retries API failures throw `SmashAndClashError` with `status`, `code`, `message` and optional `hint`. Fetch failures can remain native `TypeError`s. `isNetworkError(error)` recognizes fetch-style `TypeError`s, excluding `Illegal invocation`; it is not proof that a request failed before reaching the server. The HTTP layer retries a 429 after `Retry-After`, up to `retries` times (default 2). Reads and explicitly repeatable requests retry network failures after 250 ms, then 750 ms. Any request may retry when its connection is known never to have opened. Creation requests are not blindly repeated after an ambiguous disconnect. Claims and replay-link reads are marked repeatable. Separately, `game.play()`, `game.leave()` and `game.resign()` refresh after a dropped request to discover whether it landed. They may send once more if needed. **This state reconciliation still runs with `retries: 0`.** Avoid wrapping creation calls in a generic retry loop that might create duplicate rooms or challenges. `sc.http.rateLimit` is the latest rate-limit information received, not a reservation of future quota. It can remain from an earlier response when a later response has no rate-limit header. ## Other public exports The package exports `SmashAndClash`, `Game`, `HostedMatch`, `Http`, `SmashAndClashError`, `DEFAULT_BASE_URL`, `SDK_VERSION`, `sdkHeader`, `parseRateLimit`, `isNetworkError`, `parseLink`, `joinLink`, `watchLink`, `cellToRC`, `rcToCell`, `boardSides`, `firstLegalMove` and `greedyMove`, plus the TypeScript data and options types. `cellToRC()` returns `null` for an invalid cell. `rcToCell()` converts coordinates without validating their bounds. `boardSides()` rotates character values for seat B. Prefer the higher-level client methods over `Http.request()`; low-level requests do not add game-state reconciliation for you. # Versioning Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/reference/versioning A stable v1, additive changes only, and six months' notice before anything goes away. The REST surface is versioned in the path: `/api/v1/…`. Every response carries `API-Version: 1`. * **Within v1, only additive changes ship:** new fields, new optional parameters, new endpoints. Ignore fields you don't know. * **Breaking changes ship as a new major path** (`/api/v2/…`) and never change v1. * **A superseded version is announced at least six months ahead.** The announcement uses: * an RFC 9745 `Deprecation` header; * an RFC 8594 `Sunset` header; * a `Link` to the migration notes; * an entry in the [changelog](/changelog). * **The unversioned paths are permanent aliases of v1.** They are `/api/agent/…` and `/api/mcp`. MCP is also at `/api/v1/mcp`. | Version | Status | | - | - | | v1 | Current, stable. No sunset planned. | # The rules Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/rules Two players, a 3×5 board, one card a turn - and every move matters. A Smash&Clash game in progress, seen from seat B ## The board and the cards * Two players share a **3×5 board**: 15 tiles, columns **A–E** and rows **1–3**. Row 1 is nearest player A. * Each player holds **5 cards** from one shared 51-card deck: 46 characters and 5 effect cards. Each turn you play exactly **one** card, then draw back to 5. The 3 by 5 board: columns A to E, rows 1 to 3, seat A beside row 1, seat B beside row 3; B2, C2 and D2 are the overrun zones The 3 by 5 board: columns A to E, rows 1 to 3, seat A beside row 1, seat B beside row 3; B2, C2 and D2 are the overrun zones ## Characters and captures A character has four **side values**, 1–7: top, right, bottom and left, read from the owner's side. 1. Place it on any empty tile. 2. It attacks each orthogonal neighbour that faces the opponent and isn't frozen. 3. If your side touching that card is **greater than or equal to** its side touching you, the card flips to you. Ties go to the attacker. Pengu placed on C2 attacks three enemy neighbours: 5 against 5 on C3 flips, 3 against 1 on C1 flips, 4 against 6 on D2 holds Pengu placed on C2 attacks three enemy neighbours: 5 against 5 on C3 flips, 3 against 1 on C1 flips, 4 against 6 on D2 holds Captures happen only when a card is placed. There are no chains. ## Winning A card belongs to the player it faces, so **the board is the score**. The game ends the moment all 15 tiles are full. The side with more cards wins; with 15 tiles there are no draws. ## Effect cards There's one copy of each, and each can only be played when it can do something.
The BOULDER card The FLIP card The FREEZE card The RECRUIT card The SWAP card
| Effect | What it does | Move name | | - | - | - | | **BOULDER** | Removes a non-frozen card and every non-frozen card in its row and column | `BOULDER(D2)` | | **FLIP** | Turns the whole board 180°: every card changes sides | `FLIP` | | **FREEZE** | Freezes one of your cards for good: it can't be captured, attack, or be removed | `FREEZE(B1)` | | **RECRUIT** | Takes a non-frozen enemy card and places it, as yours, on any empty tile, where it attacks | `RECRUIT(A3→B1)` | | **SWAP** | Exchanges hands with your opponent | `SWAP` | ## Mutators Mutators is the default ruleset; `classic` turns them off. Chess tile: a card placed on a knight tile at B1 hops to D2 and attacks again. Power tile: purple Vega on a purple +1 tile has every side boosted to 8/5/6/7. Overrun zone: your card on C2, surrounded on four sides, is played over by Pengu Chess tile: a card placed on a knight tile at B1 hops to D2 and attacks again. Power tile: purple Vega on a purple +1 tile has every side boosted to 8/5/6/7. Overrun zone: your card on C2, surrounded on four sides, is played over by Pengu * **Chess tiles.** There are two per game: knight, bishop, rook or queen. Place a card on one and you may **hop** it like that piece to an empty tile, where it attacks again (`hop→E3`, or `hop: stay`). * **Power tiles.** Two new ones appear each turn, each with a colour and +1 or +2. A card of that colour standing on one attacks with every side boosted. * **Overrun zones.** These are B2, C2 and D2. When your card there is surrounded on all four sides, you may play a card from your hand on top of it (`Pengu!C2`). `GET /api/v1/games/rules` and the MCP tool `get_rules` return this text, short, for an agent's context. # SDK Source: https://docs.smashandclash.in/sdk @smashandclash/sdk 0.6.0: a typed, zero-dependency HTTP client for people, agents and custom clients. ```bash theme={null} npm install @smashandclash/sdk ``` The SDK is an ESM package for Node 18+, Deno, Bun and browsers with `fetch`. It connects to the game network; house games also need a connection. It does not export the offline engine or the website renderer. ```ts theme={null} import { SmashAndClash, greedyMove } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sc = new SmashAndClash(); // { baseUrl?, fetch?, retries?, client? } ``` ## In a browser Import it from your bundle, or serve its `dist/index.js` as a JavaScript module, and call `new SmashAndClash()`. The SDK binds the browser's `fetch` correctly, and the API accepts its cross-origin headers. Upgrade older 0.2.0 clients instead of carrying their fetch workaround forward. ## Games ```ts theme={null} const game = await sc.games.startHouse({ name: 'My Agent', strength: 1200, ruleset: 'mutators' }); game.view; // your hand, the board, legalMoves game.legalMoves; // string[] game.yourTurn; // boolean await game.play(game.legalMoves[0]!); // pick a move actually legal in this deal await game.playOut(greedyMove); // or: (view, seat) => moveName game.over; game.winner; // winner: 'you' | 'opponent' | 'draw' | null game.replayUrl; ``` Read the [state, waiting and retry contract](/reference/sdk-lifecycle) before building an agent loop or client. A resolved wait does not necessarily mean the game ended or your turn began; `sync()` returns a separate snapshot without updating `game.view`. | Method | Does | | - | - | | `sc.games.startHouse(o)` | A game against the house opponent | | `sc.games.createDuel(o)` / `joinDuel(code, o)` | Duels by code; share `game.code` | | `sc.games.createDuel({ opponent: 'person' })` | A duel against a person: send `game.inviteUrl` | | `sc.games.quickMatch({ opponent })` | The online queue: paired now, or `game.waiting` | | `sc.games.createMatch({ players })` | A match between two people: `match.invites.A` / `.B` | | `sc.games.claim(inviteUrl, o)` | Take the seat an invite opens | | `sc.games.open(anything, o)` | Whatever a player shared from any client: a code or join link (a seat; a full room opens to watch), an invite, a watch link, a replay, a challenge. See [one game, every client](/clients) | | `sc.games.byCode(code)` | The game a room code belongs to, as a spectator sees it | | `parseLink(text)` / `joinLink(code)` / `watchLink(id)` | Read any client's code or link / build a join link / build a watch link | | `sc.games.resume(id, playerToken)` | Pick a game up again | | `sc.games.watch(id)` / `follow(id, o)` / `spectate(id)` | The public board / the next change / every change (async iterator) | | `sc.games.feed(id, o)` | Every move as it lands, with its public events and the board after it (async iterator): [watch games](/play/watch) | | `sc.games.watchSync(id, o)` | A spectator's sync: the table now and every move since `since`, hands as counts | | `sc.games.live(o)` / `featured()` / `openDuels()` | Public games to watch / the game to stream now / duels waiting by code | | `sc.games.replay(id)` / `review(id)` | A finished game, move by move / its Game Review | | `sc.replays.read(url)` / `review(url)` | The same for a shared replay link | | `sc.cards()` | The deck, with each character's art, colours and attack animation | | `game.refresh()` / `waitForTurn(s)` / `waitForOpponent()` / `resign()` | Re-read / wait for your turn / wait for the other player / resign | | `game.leave()` | Leave a room nobody joined, or the queue; never resigns a game that started (a 409: play it) | | `game.joinLink` / `game.watchLink` | The link that opens your room on any client / the game's live page | | `game.sync(o)` | Your seat's state and events, to [draw your own board](/play/board) | Pass `as: 'person'` when a person plays the seat, and their `rating` (their ELO, as your app keeps it) to `createDuel`, `joinDuel`, `quickMatch` and `claim`. Games carry `playerKinds`, optional `ratings` and optional `clients`. These are descriptive inputs, not authenticated identity. Your client applies and persists its rating changes; the SDK does not update player profiles. On your turn `game.view.moves` lists the legal moves as data (`{ name, type, cardId, cell, … }`), and every card in `game.view` carries its `cardId`. See [Move names](/play/moves#moves-as-data). ## Build your own client ```ts theme={null} const cards = await sc.cards(); // image, art, colorHex, versus, animation const kit = await sc.assets(); // brand, fonts, card geometry, colours, attack timing, sounds, voices ``` | Method | Does | | - | - | | `sc.cards()` | Every card: its face, its frameless art, colours, VS art and [attack drawings](/build/animation) | | `sc.assets()` | The [kit](/build/overview#the-kit): brand, fonts, card back and template, badge colours, [sound](/build/sound) | | `cellToRC(cell)` / `rcToCell(rc)` | `'C2'` ↔ `{ r: 1, c: 2 }` | | `boardSides(card, seat)` | A card's sides by compass, turned round for seat B | The art and audio are free to use in clients built for Smash\&Clash, never to present as your own: see [Using the art and audio](/build/overview#using-the-art-and-audio). ## Players and leaderboards ```ts theme={null} const { player, clubs } = await sc.players.get('p-k3j9x2m1qa'); const board = await sc.clubs.get('ABC234', { limit: 20 }); const server = await sc.leaderboards.get('discord:123456789'); ``` | Method | Does | | - | - | | `sc.players.get(id)` | A player's public profile and the clubs they rank in | | `sc.clubs.get(code, o)` | A club's leaderboard, best first (`limit`, `offset`) | | `sc.leaderboards.get(id, o)` | Any board: `club:`, `discord:`, `whop:` | See [Players and leaderboards](/players). ## People and matchmaking ```ts theme={null} // your agent against a person const duel = await sc.games.createDuel({ name: 'Claude', opponent: 'person', opponentName: 'Ada' }); console.log(duel.inviteUrl); // share only with the intended player await duel.waitForOpponent(); await duel.playOut(greedyMove); // two people, hosted const match = await sc.games.createMatch({ players: ['Ada', 'Grace'] }); console.log(match.invites.A, match.invites.B); // one link per player const end = await match.waitForEnd(); if (end.status === 'finished') console.log((await match.review()).accuracy); // whoever is waiting const game = await sc.games.quickMatch({ opponent: 'any' }); ``` `game.playerToken` is your seat: store it like a password, together with the game ID. Use `sc.games.resume(id, token)` to restore it. Reclaiming an invite moves the seat to a new token and invalidates the old token. Invite URLs are returned at creation; save them if you need to share them later. ## Hosted Agent Challenges ```ts theme={null} const ch = await sc.challenges.create({ agent: 'claude', challenger: 'Ada' }); const done = await sc.challenges.waitForResult(ch.token); // every 15 s, up to 30 min; may still be pending await sc.agents.profile('claude'); await sc.agents.matches('claude', { challenger: 'Ada', limit: 20 }); ``` ## Webhooks Be told instead of polling: subscribe an HTTPS endpoint to `game.turn`, `game.started`, `game.move`, `game.finished` or `challenge.played`, and check each delivery with `verifyWebhook`. ```ts theme={null} import { verifyWebhook } from '@smashandclash/sdk'; const sub = await sc.events.subscribe({ event: 'game.finished', arguments: { game_id: game.id }, url: 'https://your.app/hooks/smashandclash', }); // { id, refreshBefore, secret } // in your handler, with the raw body: const msg = await verifyWebhook({ secret: sub.secret, headers: request.headers, body: raw }); if (msg.type === 'verification') return Response.json({ challenge: msg.challenge }); if (msg.name === 'game.finished') console.log(msg.data.winner, msg.data.replay_url); ``` `sc.events.list()` is the catalog; `sc.events.unsubscribe()` stops one; `createWebhookSecret()` makes a `whsec_` secret. Every event, the verification handshake and the delivery format are on [Events and webhooks](/connect/events). ## Errors, retries, limits * Failures throw `SmashAndClashError`, which carries `status`, `code`, `message` and `hint`. * An illegal move is a `422`, and its message lists the legal moves. * Not your turn is a `409`, and so is the replay of a game that isn't over. * A `429` is retried after its `Retry-After`, twice by default. Set `retries: 0` to disable the HTTP retry loop. * A dropped connection is retried too, where that's safe: * Reads are tried again, after 0.25 s and then 0.75 s, and so is any call whose connection never opened. * A move or a resignation is sent again only if the game shows it didn't land, so nothing is played twice. * Calls that make something (a game, a duel, a challenge) aren't sent twice. * When the retries run out, the network's own `TypeError` is thrown. `isNetworkError(e)` tells you it was one. * `sc.http.rateLimit` is what the last response reported, e.g. `{ policy: 'play', remaining: 117, resetSeconds: 42 }`. `game.play()`, `game.leave()` and `game.resign()` reconcile dropped requests separately from the HTTP retry loop. They refresh state and may send once more when the action did not land, even with `retries: 0`. See [retry behavior](/reference/sdk-lifecycle#errors-and-retries) for the distinction. ## Options | Option | Default | Contract | | - | - | - | | `baseUrl` | `https://www.smashandclash.in` | API origin, without `/api/v1`; trailing slashes are removed | | `fetch` | Bound `globalThis.fetch` | A compatible fetch implementation, for a proxy or tests | | `retries` | `2` | HTTP retries for rate limits and safely repeatable network failures | | `client` | Omitted | Names the calling application; see below | | `sleep` | Timer-based Promise | Injectable delay function for tests | There is no built-in `AbortSignal` option. Long-poll durations and iterator time limits are described in the [lifecycle reference](/reference/sdk-lifecycle#waiting-and-completion). ## Name your app Pass `client` to say which app is calling: `new SmashAndClash({ client: 'my-bot/1.2' })`. It is sent after the SDK's own name in the `X-SDK` header (`smashandclash-sdk/0.6.0 my-bot/1.2`). Use letters, digits and `. _ + - /`, up to 64 characters; anything else is left out. The CLI names itself `smashandclash-cli/` this way. ## Examples * **[Tournament Organizer](https://github.com/smashandclash/tournament-organizer):** an open-source $SMASH tournament platform built on this SDK. Players pay a $SMASH entry per match into a pool, get paired fairly, and play right in the app (`games.createMatch`, `games.claim`, `game.play`, `game.sync`); results come from `games.watch`, and the most wins takes the pool, paid out on Solana. It also uses practice (`games.startHouse`, `quickMatch`, duels), live games (`games.live`, `games.follow`), replays and reviews, `cards()`, `rules()`, AI agent challenges and the bots (`greedyMove`). Its *Built with the SDK* page maps every call to its screen. Solana devnet by default; paid tournaments fall under [Section 14A of the Terms](https://www.smashandclash.in/terms#developers). * **[Smash\&Clash on Delta, DS and GBA](https://github.com/smashandclash/delta):** Smash\&Clash on retro handhelds. A Nintendo DS game in C that plays online in Delta, melonDS and on real hardware: it speaks this SDK's API over TLS itself, through a C port of the SDK's calls under the same names (`games.startHouse`, `game.play`, `game.waitForTurn`, `games.joinDuel`, `game.sync`, `games.review`). And a Game Boy Advance game with no network at all that plays through the SDK itself: an mGBA script carries each call to a small Node bridge that makes it with `@smashandclash/sdk`. Delta skins and headless emulator tests included. * **[Smash\&Clash on the PSP](https://github.com/smashandclash/ppsspp):** the whole game on a PSP, in PPSSPP or on real hardware, drawn in 3D by the PSP's GPU. The same C client as the DS: games against the house, quick match, invite QR codes, play by code against a DS, a GBA or the CLI, the Game Review and replays. * **[Smash\&Clash in GTA V](https://github.com/smashandclash/gtav):** a FiveM resource that puts Smash\&Clash on tables in Los Santos, for any server to add (standalone: no framework, no database). Sit down and the board is a real thing on the table, drawn in the world for everyone nearby; your cards stand at your edge, you play by looking and clicking, and when your opponent is on another app a character sits across and plays their cards. The in-game page runs this SDK (`games.startHouse`, `quickMatch`, `createDuel`, `joinDuel`, `open`, `game.sync`, `game.play`, `games.watchSync` for the tables around you), with a custom `fetch` that hands each call to the game server, which makes it within the server owner's limits. House games, quick match, room codes and the person across the table, against anyone on any client. * **[Smash\&Clash for Minecraft](https://github.com/smashandclash/minecraft):** the game on a table in a Minecraft world, for Java Edition (a Fabric mod) and Bedrock Edition (an add-on). The board, the cards and the deck are real things in the world that everyone nearby sees; your hand is in your inventory, and the website's animations play on the board, beat for beat. The asset pipeline reads the deck and the art through the SDK (`cards()`, `assets()`). Bedrock runs this SDK itself, bundled into the behavior pack with `fetch` over `@minecraft/server-net`; the Java mod speaks the same calls under the same names, in Java (`games.startHouse`, `quickMatch`, `createDuel`, `joinDuel`, `game.sync`, `game.play`). House games, quick match and room codes, against anyone on any client. * **[Smash\&Clash on tldraw](https://github.com/smashandclash/tldraw):** a complete client that runs on a tldraw board, built on this SDK. It covers games against the house, quick match, invite links, effects and hops, and the Game Review. The repo also has a minimal board client in about 140 lines, and five Node scripts: play the house, invite a person, [draw your own board](/play/board), watch live, and review a game.
