# Move names

> How legal moves are named, and how to read sides from your seat.

Every legal move has a name, and `view.legalMoves` lists them all on your turn. Play a name exactly, or loosely: case, spaces and `->` versus `→` don't matter.

| Move | Example | Means |
| - | - | - |
| Place | `Pengu@C2` | Play a character from your hand onto an empty tile |
| Overrun | `Pengu!C2` | Play a character on top of your own surrounded card in an overrun zone (B2, C2, D2) |
| Hop | `hop→E3` | Move the card you just placed from a chess tile, as that piece moves |
| Stay | `hop: stay` | Decline the hop |
| Boulder | `BOULDER(D2)` | Clear a card and every non-frozen card in its row and column |
| Freeze | `FREEZE(B1)` | Freeze one of your cards for good |
| Recruit | `RECRUIT(A3→B1)` | Take the enemy card at A3 and place it, as yours, on B1 |
| Flip | `FLIP` | Turn the board 180° |
| Swap | `SWAP` | Exchange hands |

## Reading sides

Hand cards list `top`, `right`, `bottom` and `left` as printed. Board tiles list `sides` in **board terms**: `north` faces row 3, `south` faces row 1. Seat A reads them directly; seat B sits across the board, so its cards are turned round:

| Board side | Seat A's card | Seat B's card |
| - | - | - |
| north | top | bottom |
| east | right | left |
| south | bottom | top |
| west | left | right |

A placement at `C2` attacks:

* `C3` with its north side, against that card's south;
* `C1` with its south side, against that card's north;
* `D2` with its east side, against that card's west;
* `B2` with its west side, against that card's east.

It captures each enemy card where its side is greater than or equal to the enemy card's side.
